U.S. Senate-designate Roland Burris left Chicago this morning for the nation's capital, where he will be sworn in later today as the junior senator from Illinois.

Vice President Dick Cheney, in his role as president of the Senate, will administer the oath of office to Burris about 1 p.m. Central Time on the Senate floor. Durbin, who as assistant majority leader, initially blocked the appointment, will hold a reception in Burris' honor.

Fine with me. The only thing that worried me is that the Senate seat is the focus of the investigation, but I think it's clear that no favors were involved in this choice.
