Grenade closes US-Canada border
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3494819.stm

<snip>

One of the main border crossings between Canada and the US was closed
when border guards found a hand grenade in a vehicle heading into
Canada.

...

But bemused officials now say the incident was caused by a woman who
got lost and happened to have a grenade.

...

Officials say this incident was caused by a common enough mistake in
these parts.

<snip>

The weird thing was that the woman claimed to have no idea the grenade
was in her vehicle, that it "probably" belonged to her husband who
"reportedly" works for the US military. And this was deemed OK?!

Note that husband was not "reportedly" a soldier or airman or sailor.

1. Darwin Award material
I sure hope this woman and her boyfriend/husband (they seem to be trying to still figure this out) do not breed. She doesn't know the difference between Vancouver, WA, and Vancouver, BC.

When I returned from Gulf War I in 91, even officers were pretty thoroughly checked for illegal weapons and ammo - sounds like the checks have gotten loose lately. (A grenade going off on a plane could very easily bring it down)
