BBC: Iraq bomb blast kills US soldier north of Baghdad
One US soldier has been killed and another wounded after a bomb exploded next to their convoy in northern Iraq.

The soldiers were travelling near Tall Afar, about 400km (250 miles) north of Baghdad, when the device went off, the US military said in a statement.

The convoy also came under enemy fire - which it returned - but reportedly did not capture or kill any attackers.

On Monday two US soldiers died in separate roadside bomb attacks in and around the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

2. Are these all roadSIDE bombs?
There seem to be a lot of reports quoting "roadside bombs" these days.

Are these all building/lamppost/tree mounted things or is this term
just becoming a media euphemism for "landmine"?

(i.e., "roadside bomb" sounds an amateur, lucky hit sort of thing
that a "terrorist" would use while "landmine" sounds far more
organised, planned operation sort of thing that would be associated
with an "army" or resistance movement).

3. What happened to IED?
The media used to throw this acronym around quite a bit. Maybe no on knew what IED was so they just went with "roadside bomb".
