BLAINE, Wash. - A major border crossing was closed for about an hour Monday after guards found "a small amount" of explosives in a car entering Canada from the United States, Canadian customs officials said

They did not specify what type of explosives was found at the Peace Arch border crossing in Blaine.

"We found a small amount of explosives in a car coming in from the United States and immediately closed and evacuated the port," Canadian customs spokeswoman Paula Shore said.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police bomb squad was called in to remove the explosives, Shore said.

She should have travelled south from her location to reach Vancouver, WA but instead went north. She didn't even realize she was heading for Canada until she reached the border crossing.

Surrey, B.C. — A lost American with a grenade in her glove box closed one of the busiest U.S.-Canada border crossings for almost an hour Monday.

Police say a woman arrived at the Peace Arch crossing near Blaine, Wash., south of Vancouver, thinking she was headed for Vancouver, Wash.

When Canada Customs officials searched her vehicle they found a hand grenade in the glove compartment.
