Sarah Palin Questions Media Treatment of Caroline Kennedy
Source: shewired

Alaska governor and former 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, seems a little miffed by what she perceives to be the easier time Caroline Kennedy, Hillary Clinton’s potential successor in the U.S. Senate, is having with the press despite what many have described as Kennedy’s slim resume.

Palin who appears in How Obama Got Elected, a new documentary film by conservative filmmaker John Ziegler, suggested in an interview which began circulating around YouTube on Wednesday that there is a class based bias in the media and that it has consistently been used against her.

Liberal Media Bias?

Guess that if you're intelligent, capable of independent analytical thought
at least as much as you are capable of attacking the fatcattle sacred cows,
{better duck Rush} then by definition you are a 'biased' liberal.

And the right wing will try to use this reverse discrimination as long as
it 'drums up their base.'

Not to mention her uncle. Caroline had to deal with a lot in her life. Palin needs to quite while she's at it.

anyone would put something like that on the official state website. I am so offended by her efforts to create a divisive issue about Caroline Kennedy.

How can she allow this on the official state web site? It's more evidence of her unprofessionalism. It's all about her, not how we perceive the people of Alaska. She's a moran.

She's trying to call up Reagan. As bad and sleazy as Reagan was in his personal life, at least he didn't wear it like a banner--like Palin does.

Palin is a fucking idiot. she is too stupid to see what a dumb fuck she is and continues to view herself as a victim of the media and everyone else.

Court of St.James anyway. Not to mention, the patriarch of one of the most remarkable families in America ever. He was born into a group that was discriminated against and rose above it. Sarah was born WASP and is so proud of being a redneck that she names her company redneck in French (but doesn't get even that right). No sympathy. Call the waaambulance.

Edited on Fri Jan-09-09 10:01 AM by karynnj
and they were treated FAR worse than Palin. Their real lives of public service, accomplishment, and integrity were smeared. The things that hurt Palin were mostly self inflicted. The campaign dared the media to make something of her ethics violations, her lack of knowledge (any middle school kid asked to write an essay on what a VP's role is would have failed with ANY of her answers), and her brash attacks on Obama and Biden - which were ok because she was Sarah.

It is interesting that she brings up "class". The Republicans tried to label the Clintons as not having class in the early 1990s - trying to tar them with Arkansas sterotypes that NEVER fit. During the campaign, it seemed that Palin almost flaunted the fact that her dysfunctional family and her mavericky ability to never respond intelligently to questions. (Can you imagine a Democrat who proud of being uniformed.) If she were a Democrat, would the media have almost blamed the Republicans for her family's real lack of class. Imagine the uproar had Governor Clinton's wife had the DNC spend over $150,000 outfitting her. Imagine the outcry there would have been had one of the teen Gore girls been pregnant.

Oddly enough, I suspect the next Palin or republican fury to be that no one defended Palin as classy.

41. There is socioeconomic class and then there is a classy person. Sarah is not a classy person,
nor a well-education, well-informed or intellectually curious person, no matter which socioeconomic class she falls in. Caroline is a classy person, well-educated and well-informed, no matter which socioeconomic class she falls in. Sarah is attempting to say that Couric and others made a fool of her solely because of her socioeconomic class, but that is untrue.

6. Whaaaah! It's so unfair!
Could it have anything to do with the fact that being a rookie U.S. Senator is nothing at all like being POTUS (which is really what a VP must be qualified for)?

Could it be that Kennedy is well educated and shows a capacity for rational thought... as compared to Palin, who sounds like an overconfident airhead and needed 4 tries before finally getting an undergraduate degree?

Could it be that Kennedy readily admits that she hasn't held office before... as compared to Palin, who pretends that being mayor of the 4,000th largest city in America gave her significant "executive experience" and that being governor of a federal welfare state that's awash in oil money is proof of her executive abilities?

Naw!

21. This Says More About Sarah Palin
Than it does about Caroline Kennedy.

The message I received from this interview is that Sarah Palin is envious of Caroline Kennedy and falsely bitter about the treatment Kennedy is getting. The problem is that this bitterness reflects on Palin having a severe inferiority complex. No wonder she was more than willing to accept the outlandishly expensive clothing and makeup she received during her VP run. Alaska voters can't be too happy about this display of vanity and neither am I.

30. No - it was her actions that led to negative press
She was a middle class daughter of a school teacher. The things she was called on were for being nearly vacant in interviews - to the point that Tine Fey did not need to re-write her mindbogglingly stupid answers. These were not a couple of taken out of context, worse quotes ever from her - it was every interview she did.

This was either the persona the Republicans asked her to adopt - being proudly ignorant or real. It is not area - the new Alaska Senator is gracious and well spoken. It is not that she is woman - HRC has been in the public eye for about 2 decades and it would be hard - over that entire interval to find as many really dumb comments as Palin made in 2 months. Whether you like HRC or not, one of the first images you have of her is that she is smart and can communicate that - not so with Palin.

29. Not really - look at the people who have run and how they are treated
1) Define class as being based only on the socio-economic stratum a candidate came from - and give extra points to families there for generations.

2) Observation (mine - I know there will be disagreement) on which candidate the media treated better IN THE ELECTION CYCLE.

1992 - Bill Clinton got far more positive coverage than GWHB. (remember how often we heard of GHWB vomiting in Asia?)

2000 - Bush was treated far better than he deserved, Gore far worse than deserved

2004 - Every part of Kerry's life was smeared, Bush was protected. In the Democratic primaries the candidate treated best by the media was Edwards.

2008 - No candidate was treated with more deference than John McCain - imagine if any Democrat had done anything like the Bomb Iran song. How many times did we see the made for TV puff biography about McCain as a POW (Kerry's 2 medals were more easily shown as heroic and we know how the media treated that) Palin initially was given incredibly good coverage - their "test" of her was defined as whether a woman, who was a communications major, could read a speech that someone wrote for her from a teleprompter well. Then there was stunned shock and praise when .. she did it!! Both HRC and Obama had periods of really good media and periods of bad media.

So, my summary -

Treated exceptionally well:
Bush 2000 - upper class
Bush 2004 - upper class
McCain 2008 - upper class (he is from a long tern Navy family)
Clinton 1992 - by birth likely the lowest class person who ran
Palin 2008 - middle class - I know this is not where she would place herself - but given all she did - they were very kind
Edwards 2004 - lower to middle class

Treated basically well most of the time -

Obama 2008 - middle class
HRC 2008 - middle class

Treated inexplicably badly -

Kerry 2004 - upper class (he was not rich, but he was a Forbes and a Winthrope)
Dean 2004 - upper class (Park Avenue - wall street)
Gore 2000 - upper class (Southern gentility)

34. Does she not realize that she is only embarrassing herself by continuing
to whine and complain?

They were playing clips yesterday of this interview she gave and she came across as a vindictive, juvenile, petty, little snot making snide remarks about Katie Couric, Tina Fey, the media, the Mccain campaign and campaign staffers. She has no freaking clue that she is damaging herself more and more with her snotty whining like this. People might have a bit more respect for her if she studied up on the issues and then gave an interview where she intelligently discussed important issues of the day instead of doing a "oh woe is me" show again and again. Her victim shtick is getting real stale.
