U.S. Reportedly Releases Saddam's Parliament Speaker

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces have released Saadoun Hammadi, former Iraqi parliament speaker and a long-time aide to Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), after nine months in custody, witnesses said Monday.


A guard outside Hammadi's house in Baghdad said he had returned home Saturday. He said he looked frail.


A young man identified as Hammadi's son told Qatar-based television station Al Jazeera his father was freed midday on Saturday.


"He came home and his health is not bad, but he is tired right now and does not want to see or talk to anyone," he said.
