Iraqi Gunmen Kill 1 American in Ambush
AP Wire

February 16, 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Gunmen ambushed a car carrying American civilians on a road south of Baghdad, killing one and wounding three others, the U.S. military said.

The attackers, driving a white sedan, opened fire on the taxi that the Americans were taking to Baghdad from the site of the ancient city of Babylon, the survivors told U.S. troops, a statement from the military said Sunday.

U.S. paratroopers learned of Saturday's attack while conducting a patrol in the town of Mahmudiyah, about 15 miles south of Baghdad, and were told the Americans were being treated at hospital there.

The statement said the Americans were part of a "religious group" but did not identify it. There are a number of Christian humanitarian groups working in Iraq.

1. if these were missionaries they should get the hell out
and stop putting our soldiers in harms way. Get OUT of Iraq and dont evangelize ..our kids shouldnt have to save your asses and put themselves in jeopardy because you think you have to preach. Get out.
and bring the troops home NOW

2. I don't mind the missionaries so much

most of them mean well. But it really pisses me off to hear about our kids dying to protect a pipeline or while they are providing security for Halliburton.

As a matter of fact, the people that got killed in this instance weren't being protected. The US didn't find out about it until a day later.

4. I don't mind if the missionaries are performing
helpful services, like providing medical assistance, or bringing food and necessities. But i do mind our soldiers have to protect those who do nothing but proselytize, or have strings attached to the assistance they provide.
