Ashlanders 'Shoe Bush' at Navickas' new art gallery
Source: Ashland Daily Tidings

Marjorie Mather leaned her 91-year-old frame back, clutched the shoe with all her strength and then let it fly, hitting "President Bush" smack in the cheek and splattering paint across his visage.

"Wow, I didn't know that was going to be so much fun!" she said, throwing up her hands in victory.

"Before, I said, 'I can't do it. I'm not happy with Bush, but I can't throw a shoe at him.' But then you get into the spirit of the thing and you say, 'Why not?'" Mather said Friday night, at MAda Shell Gallery's opening exhibit downtown.

The Shoe Bush installation invited locals to slingshot shoes at an eight foot square painting of the president's face. City Councilor Eric Navickas — who opened the gallery with his partner Amy Godard — used a paint roller to slather a thick layer of red on the soles of the sneakers, boots and Birkenstocks before people fired them at the image of Bush. Each shot cost $1 and the funds collected will go toward future gallery exhibits.

5. Someone could make a lot of money on this. In fact, if the Bush liberry people
are smart, they will set up booths instead of book shelves and give visitors a variety of opportunities to throw shoes and other objects at effigies of Bush, and charge a fee. They could make a mint for rightwing causes. For the few who object, they could have a special chapel with smarmy music and an altar to Bush, where these lonelyhearts can pray for the souls of the people throwing the shoes and all sinners. Millions would flock to the liberry, and pay up, to shoe Bush. And if they're really REALLY smart, and Bush's acquisitiveness is appealed to, they will offer him in person, from time to time, on a surprise basis, for shoe throwing at the real article (or maybe slipper throwing). Nobody will know when he's going to show up in one of the booths. Anybody could get lucky. And they could up the fee quite a bit, on that chance.

Really. I'm not kidding.

Do not imply that this is anything but a joke.
Do not question the motives of the 'anti-war' crowd.
Do not show concern for the people whose actions amuse the crowd.
Do not point out the ridiculous nature of this act.
Do not observe that comedy of the comfortable is no act of solidarity with the afflicted.
Do not suggest that we deserve hell for creating hell.
Do not have any emotional reaction beyond the 48-hour joke-email cycle.
Do not weep for the ruins of Babylon.

And on editing, and in answer to your first question, our leaders are telling us that http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article5419679.ece">he is alive. Our leaders are not known for their honesty.
