3 arrested in N. California lesbian gang rape case
Source: AP

RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) -- One man and two teens have been arrested on suspicion of gang-raping a woman last month in the San Francisco Bay area while allegedly taunting her for being a lesbian, police said Thursday as they searched for a fourth suspect.

Officers arrested 31-year-old Humberto Hernandez Salvador at his Richmond home Wednesday night, Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan said. The suspect is being held without bail on gang rape, kidnapping and carjacking charges.

Police also arrested a 15-year-old Richmond boy and a 16-year-old Hercules boy Wednesday. Their names were not released.

Investigators are still seeking 21-year-old Josue Gonzalez, who had prior addresses in San Rafael and Richmond, on a $1 million warrant for gang rape, kidnapping and carjacking, police said. Gonzalez was called by the nickname "Pato" during the attack and is considered armed and dangerous, Gagan said.

19. Actually I'd think it's a reference to the latino culture

Homophobia does exist in every community, but some cultures are more heavily into machismo. Ironic, because (and I apologize in advance for the stereotyping) take two heavily machismic (?) cultures - Mexican and Italian - and yet they're also the ones to revere mothers more than is done in other cultures. So you have a situation where the male dominates and yet the mothers (and sisters and daughters) are held up as symbols of purity. It's a weird dichotomy.

35. Not the only group
If it had been Michael Davis or John Simmons or another non-ethnic name the outrage would be towards men in general, not a specific ethnic group.

But I think we are basically in agreement.

37. Yes, we are in basic agreement. Lol, except that if it were a 'non-ethnic" name,

such as you mentioned, the outrage would be aimed specifically against loathsome "white trash" or "white rich men who are above the law" or white men "who create the laws that encourage vile treatment of women."

Parts of the thread would trail off into "rethuglicans are the root cause" land, with George Bush being personally responsible for every rape in the last eight years, as well as all those in the next twenty to come. The thread would be three miles long.

As evidenced above, and many, many other places.

59. I agree with you. Sometimes what I read about gay people makes me cringe.
Sadly, it's fairly obvious that some people make remarks without even having a clue that what they're saying is insulting.

It's just my personal opinion of course about the other, but it's what I've noticed. Maybe people who've been here longer than others don't see it anymore. Perhaps people don't think of it as slamming because white men are the majority rule in this country so they're all fair game.

Of the hate that spews from the pulpits of disgusting asses like Warren. And the Pope. Yes, I understand people are responsible for their own actions. But if we didn't have so-called "religious leaders" and politicians actively promoting hate, these crimes would be far fewer.

27. Um, yeah, it is.
According to Human Rights Watch, at least 140,000 inmates are raped in the US each year,<1> and there is a significant variation in the rates of prison rape by race. Stop Prisoner Rape, Inc. statistics indicate that there are more men raped in U.S. prisons than non-incarcerated women similarly assaulted.

42. Define 'common'.
If you mean ninety percent then no. But it's the norm with prisoners that have no protection or are vulnerable. They might call it 'coercion'. But it's really just the victim choosing how and when to be raped, because getting raped they will.

62. It's common in war to impugne the sexual prowess of your enemy
or otherwise demean them. Thus we fought "krauts", "slopes", "gooks" and others. Dehumanizing makes you question it less.

Rape is also a tool of war. In some cultures the effect is incredible - particularly in the middle east where often women are shunned from the community for being raped, as if it was their idea. Many women who are raped won't return to their home village because they'd be ostracized. It's wrong on so many levels.

31.  The Pope doesn't have to ....
give a speech in support of rape . . .

All he has to do is cast women as "inferior" and aid their oppression.

The circumstances then deliver the results.

And -- if I recall correctly, the last Pope - the CIA Pope --

"appealed to young girls who have been brutally raped in Bosnia as a tool

of war not to have an abortion." In fact, I believe it was issued as an edict.

And, these are the same circumstances for homosexuals . . . the religious

preaching against them as an "abomination" sets the stage every Sunday for

increasing hatred and intolerance for homosexuals. Should we be suprised at

the results?

This is nothing new for the RCC which has for 2,000 years preached vile

propaganda against Jews, as well. They continue to be called upon by the world

community to sign a Confession of Guilt and Co-Responsibility for the Jewish

Holocaust in Germany.

Yes -- creating hatred for a class of people encourages violence against them.

46. Where do you get this stuff?
Your saying that the Pope's stance against all abortion makes him cast women as inferior? Ridiculous. The Pope, regardless of how you feel about him is against anything that he believes to be killing. That is why the Catholic church is against war, the death penalty, etc. I see now that you are one of those people who blame the Holocaust on the Catholic church. I saw a guy giving out pamphlets in a parking lot in TN saying that a couple of years ago...

No . . . the Vatican/Popes continue to not acknowledge the full personhood of

females as they acknowledge the full personhood of males. They bar women from

ritual and authority within the church.

Maybe you've also heard of the Bible and the "Hammer of Witches" . . . ???

Witch Hunts?

Against abortion? No, the RCC is against all reproductive freedom.

Again -- how do you not know this -- or are you simply in denial?

No . . . it is the INTERNATIONAL WORLD COMMUNITY which blames the Jewish Holocaust

in Germany on the RCC and their teachings --- their vile propaganda against Jews,

and their 1,100 year oppression of Jews in Papal ghettoes barring them from

society, careers, education -- forcing them to wear YELLOW STARS--!!!

Obviously, you're one of those people who when you get a clue to reality about

organized patriarchal religion, you walk away fast.

10. Gotta love that headline...
make it sound like the victim is the perpetrator...

Doesn't it sound like a marauding band of lesbians was raping people?

38. Extremely confusing headline
Is should read "lesbian's gang rape" or "gang rape of lesbian".

And I hope the woman this happened to finds some peace and healing.

51. I'm not religious, but I have spent a lot of time in Churches of various denominations...
...and I can't ever, ever, remember once hearing the pastor, priest, iman, or any of the members say, "Go rape homosexuals!" If anything, it's been just the opposite. Either way, these guys have changed this poor woman's life in ways that I can't even pretend to understand. I hope the rapists dealt with accordingly, but more than anything, I hope this poor woman is able to find peace after this horrific experience.

63. They merely devalue homosexuals until they're no longer "people"
...and reduce them to be objects to be hated and destroyed.

75. What makes you think . . .
a direct order has to be stated?

When you oppress a class of people -- call them an "obomination" ---

teach that "god" is oppossed to homosexuals, what do you think is going

to happen?

Tell me you never heard the preaching of intolerance for homosexuals in

your Church--- or that you believed it never happened in any church ---

We must all be concerned with female equality not only when something like

this happens, but always.

If you church does not fully acknowledge the full personhood of females as

it acknowledges the full personhood of males, then I'd say you have some work

to do in your church.

76. And, if that does happen, that is as much a crime as what happened to this poor woman
Rape is rape, and I HATE seeing it advocated as prison punishment. Rape is a violent crime, and teh rapist is a criminal, no matter who the victim is.

82. the entire story is ugly..fuck your bullshit "pc" label
it doesn't really matter if four men kidnapped and gang raped this woman just because she was a lesbian or if she was targetted because she was a lesbian because of a gang initiation. it's still a hate crime.
