First Lady: Shoe 'Assault' Shows Freedom in Iraq
Source: fox (noise)

First lady Laura Bush said she was offended by the recent "assault" on her husband, who had two shoes thrown at him during a recent visit to Iraq. At the same time, however, she said the assault shows that Iraqis feel a lot freer than they did before.

"I know that if Saddam Hussein had been there the man wouldn't have been released, and probably would've been executed," she said of the Iraqi journalist, who was arrested following the Dec. 14 incident and has been in custody since.

Laura Bush noted that President Bush is a "natural athlete" as demonstrated by his ability to dodge the shoes.

Bush, who appeared in an interview taped for "FOX News Sunday," said she never thought she would personally have the power to spotlight her favorite issues until after Sept. 11, 2001, when she began discussing the plight of women in Afghanistan.

To get roughed-up during his apprehension. The Secret Service has to make absolutely sure any threat is *immediately* stopped. They showed restraint in not just shooting him.

2. Ok, Pickles....
....I guess the freeest peoples in the world (that would be us according to your Xanaxed, alcohol and ciggied logic) should be able to throw our shoes at Two Shoes.

Oh, by the by, Two Shoes never competed in any sport during his miserable academic experience. He is a gym rat who shows no athletic talent whatsoever. A real athlete would have caught the first shoe and disdainfully flung it aside.

14. She is seeking liberation herself....
I often look at her and have this incredible sense of sadness. I think she is probably seeking liberation herself. Good luck. Tarred and feathered together for eternity.

As for someone throwing shoes at Saddam Hussein she apparently doesn't realize what an insult it is. Had anyone done so, that might have taken care of Saddam Hussein. He literally would have been ashamed to show his face in public. It's like a stoning. Except you don't die. The point is, which she misses, no one ever threw shoes at him.

No doubt in a couple of months the Dallas Morning News will be treating us to "Laura in the Kitchen" stories. You have to feel sorry for her. She really doesn't have an identity of her own. And never will.

I read she has a new home built for her, however, from what the story said, he won't be moving w/ her...it's part of an agreement made between them due to the fact that a public divorce would be embarrassing to him..plus, it said she'd receive a nice monetary settlement/month..does anyone know if this is true? Part of the agreement is that she must appear in public when needed w/ him...I'm not surprised if this story is true..Is he going to be living at the ranch by himself??

46. Who knows, who cares...
They had bought a lot in Highland Park on Euclid and were planning to build a new home. Then decided not to. They really don't fit into Highland Park. Never did. I hate to say it but they're too "common" for Highland Park. Highland Park is one of those really exclusive neighborhoods where they don't like the "riff-raff" so you can draw your own conclusions. Apparently the Bushes drew theirs and returned to their old neighborhood. Amongst their own. Most of them crooks.

They didn't have him on there? Laura comes into her own finally. I still say they will start running "Laura in the Kitchen" stories in a couple of months.

Phil Gramm is certainly Texan of the Year. Crooked and Corrupt Texan of the Year. The man belongs in prison. Hope springs eternal. Hopefully he will get caught up in the UBS/Bernie Madoff scandal. UBS apparently used Bernie Madoff to launder money for the US tax evaders. Or so some of the gossip in New York goes. In any case, UBS is under scrutiny in Switzerland over the tax evasion question. Switzerland loves to hide your money and make you rich off your hidden money. But you better have paid taxes on what you deposit. Quite a few didn't.

He was their pick a few years ago and I believe the paper admitted that they wanted to pick him the following year but didn't think they could get away with it 2 years in a row.
I surprised they somehow didn't make Mclame "honorary Texan of the Year" the way they endorsd his ass back in November.

Laura: Shoe-throwing 'was an assault'
By LISA LERER | 12/28/08 10:20 AM EST

George W. and Laura Bush on December 23.
First lady Laura Bush said she disagrees with critics who have deemed her husband’s presidency as a failure.

First Lady Laura Bush wasn’t amused when an Iraqi reporter threw his shoes at the president during a news conference in Baghdad earlier this month.

“It was an assault,” she said. “And the president laughed it off, he wasn’t hurt, he’s very quick as you know he’s a natural athlete and ducked it but on the other hand it was an assault.”

But despite her unhappiness, the first lady saw an upside to the Dec. 14 event.

“As bad as the incident is, in my view, it is a sign that Iraqis feel a lot more free to express themselves,” she said.

"I know that if Saddam Hussein had been there the man wouldn't have been released, and probably would've been executed," she said of the Iraqi journalist, who was arrested following the Dec. 14 incident and has been in custody since.
