McDonald's Japan triples net loss from the last year
The Japanese unit of US hamburger chain McDonald's said Friday its net loss more than tripled last year due to special write-offs, including a severance payout to its founder.

McDonald's Holdings Co (Japan) Ltd said its group net loss surged to 1 billion (US$67.3 million) last year from 3 billion the previous year.

Its recurring profit fell 7.5 percent to 9 billion on sales of 99.8 billion, down 6.5 percent.

For this year, the company forecast a net profit of 9 billion and current profit of 5 billion on revenue of 05.1 billion.

2. I find myself being to suspcious so I didn't mention that but the first
two thoughts I had were;
1. was it because of boycotts
and
2. McDonalds needs to get rid of its employees to be profitable

No problem for me...

Let me tell them the reason for the decline:

McDonald's hamburgers are far too expensive for the quality and taste! Pay a bit more and get a Moosburger instead. This company is not in the red and always full (at least where I live).

consistency to confusion

Let me tell them the reason for the decline:

They have lost the consistency that made them famous. Every week or so its a different burger at a different price.

I'm dissapointed almost everytime I go there because its not what I expect.

Its less consitent than other restaurants - thus confusing and a place to be avoided.

5. How can you take this article seriously? It's full of falsities
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 02:38 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Who knows what the truth is? Based on this article, a 1 billion Yen loss is 3 times worse than a 3 billion Yen loss.

So which is it? Did losses surge, or did they go down?

Its recurring profit fell 7.5 percent to 9 billion on sales of 99.8 billion, down 6.5 percent.

So then it actually DID make a profit, though the profit was less than the year before. So the profit is being claimed as a loss? Is this Enron accounting? or just shitty reporting?

For this year, the company forecast a net profit of 9 billion and current profit of 5 billion on revenue of 05.1 billion.

While I'm sure the profit margin of McDonald's is quite high, I don't think they make a 5000% profit. And didn't they just say that sales were 99.8 billion? How can they have revenue of 5.1 billion?

Truly, the sense from the article, and from the new management guy said is that McDonald's lost money - I think that is quite evident - but look at the math people. This is a messed up article, and makes no sense.

Or else everything I've been taught about accounting and company valuation has been a lie.

Come on people, actually read the articles - don't assume that the headline has the whole truth. We're democrats, we should be smarter than that. Do some due diligence, read with a critical eye.

6. Argh! More bullshit from the Taipei Times
How can a net loss "surge" from 3 billion to 1 billion? It would be surging if it went the other way!

And anyway, actual net loss was 7 billion yen.

9. "The reason Japanese people are so short and have yellow skin
"The reason Japanese people are so short and have yellow skin is
because
they have eaten nothing but fish and rice for two thousand years...if
we
eat McDonald's hamburgers and potatoes for a thousand years we will
become taller, our skin will become white and our hair blonde".
