Defying U.S., Russia set to give Iran nuclear fuel
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001857910_russnukes14.html

MOSCOW — Twice in the past month Russia has dealt a blow to the Bush administration's efforts to limit the spread of nuclear fuels and curtail trafficking in weapons of mass destruction.

Russia's nuclear-energy minister, Alexander Rumyantsev, confirmed yesterday that Moscow will override U.S. objections and ship nuclear fuel to a Russian-built reactor in Iran.

An agreement with Tehran should be complete "in about two weeks," Rumyantsev said. He expects to sign the accord when he visits the Bushehr reactor next month.

The Bush administration believes Tehran is seeking nuclear weapons and fears the new reactor will be used in that effort.

1. Didn't Chimpy said he looked into Putin's eyes and seen a good man?
He better take another peek I think.

5. What goes around
...comes around. American or Israeli agression against Bushehr could set the stage for a larger war. The ridiculous Bush oil policy has finally given Russia a trump card in Iran. American inroads to southwest Asia and central Asia have met their high water mark.

...with respect to their internal politics, although I did brief Iranian events regularly many years ago. I view this from a foreign policy perspective. I could see our current regime of amateur game players wanting to destabilize Iran in any way that it could. This is their MO.

The Woollacot piece seems to be a conventional western analysis of reformist v. conservatives. I don't know how valuable this is going to be ultimately. I've heard many of his characterizations made over and again but I don't know how accurate they are. Evidently, he is making some sort of moral appeal to the superiority of the secular western way of life.

Nationalism is the driving force in Iran, not secular democracy. Perhaps it is true that the younger generation confuses American "consumer culture" with freedom. Wanting DVDs and consumer electronics does not equal pro-American policies. Such a paradigm avoids and conceals the ever present Anglo-American imperial designs on Iran. The overwhelming imperial desire is to re-establish their proprietary hold over Iranian resources. I don't see any Iranian regime regardless of its colors ever going back to this.

Your last two links made for great reading. I follow their analysis and believe it to be quite credible. Thanks.

6. I have to admit that I am somewhat convinced
by the simple argument "Why the hell would Iran need a nuclear reactor for energy with all that oil??" that this isn't an honest transaction.
But then I also have some trust in IAEA so I'm not sure, but it seems to be that the IAEA is getting some wool pulled over their eyes.

7. It is because as Chimpy proved in Iraq if they don't have nukes the USA...
...will come and steal their oil. Is that really that hard to figure out?
