NO-GO:Bush wanted to fly in Vietnam, colonel says

RICHMOND

A former senior Virginia Air National Guard commander, who served with George W. Bush in the Texas Air Guard, says that Bush looked into volunteering for Vietnam combat service but was told he did not have the required flight experience.

William J. Campenni, a retired Air Guard colonel, also said that such absences as Bush's from his unit were common in the Air Guard during the period of Bush's service and still are.

Campenni, 63, lives in Herndon, Va., and has participated in Republican Party politics in Northern Virginia. He retired as an Air Force pilot in 1998, last flying with the 192nd Fighter Wing based at Richmond International Airport.

According to Campenni, Bush inquired about participating in a volunteer program called Palace Alert that used Air National Guard pilots flying in the F-102 Delta Dagger interceptor jet in Vietnam.

The Air Guard advised Bush that he did not have the desired 500 hours of flight time as a pilot to qualify for Palace Alert duty, and, in any event, the program was winding down and not accepting more volunteers

Bush joined the Texas Air National Guard at Ellington Air Force Base in May 1968. In May 1972, records show that he received permission to perform nonflying duties in Alabama.

"Any pilot could have left the Air Force or the Air Guard with ease after 1972 before his commitment was up," he said, "because there just wasn't room for all of them anymore."

1. Bush disagrees with this fellow. Wonder which one is lying?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4114162 /

<snip>In fairness, Bush has been candid about why he enlisted in the Air National Guard. Like many young men of his generation, he wanted to avoid Vietnam. He told one reporter, "I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."

2. Campenni is a Bush shill...
AS to whether or not he is being actively guided by Rove, I can't tell. But he has been running cover for Bush and is being given air time (I saw him on CSPAN) because the Washington Times published his letter. The Moonies Times, mind you!

7. Wasn't William J. Campenni with the Pennsylvania National Guard?
Didn't Mr. Campenni say also that he couldn't remember junior being in Alabama, "but that doesn't mean junior wasn't there."

If junior wanted to go to Vietnam he was probably trying to get away from the cocaine arrest or the abortion rumor of Robin Lowman, at the urging of his daddy.

Transcript from CNN:

"Flynt : Well, during the impeachment debacle, we did an investigation which resulted in the
resignation of Bob Livingston and others and we have continued this investigation and for eight
months we've been looking into George W. Bush's background. And we've found out in the early
1970s he was involved in an abortion in Texas, and I just think that it's sad that the mainstream
media, who's aware of this story, won't ask him that question when they were able to ask him the
drug question without any proof at all, and we've got all kinds of proof on this issue.

Novak : Well, you're ...

Flynt : You know, the guy admitted he was a drunk for 20 years, and if the abortion issue is true
then that puts him lower on the morality scale than Bill Clinton.

Novak : Mr. Flynt, you said if it's true and you have no proof of that. I gather you are a very
strong ...

Flynt : The hell we don't have proof.

Novak : Sir, I gather you're a very strong Gore supporter. Is that correct?

Flynt : I'll vote for the lesser of the two evils. I don't like either one of them.

Press : All Right, Larry Flynt, a man who speaks his word, but we remind you they are Larry
Flynt's words and not ours. Larry Flynt, thank you very, very much for joining us.

This was followed by an online chat, in which Flynt went into greater detail :

CNN : Mr. Flynt, I would like to know how you plan to protect yourself from a law suit by
claiming to have the goods on GWBush.

Flynt : Because we have them and the truth is an absolute defense.

CNN : When and where are you going to publish information about George W. Bush?

Flynt : When I said that we had the proof, I am referring to knowing who the girl was, knowing
who the doctor was that pereformed the abortion, evidence from girlfriends of hers at the time,
who knew about the romance and the subsequent abortion. The young lady does not want to go
public, and without her willingness, we don't feel that we're on solid enough legal ground to go
with the story, because should she say it never happened, then we've got a potential libel suit. But
we know we have enough evidence that we believe completely. One of the things that interested
us was that this abortion took place before Roe Vs. Wade in 1970, which made it a crime at the
time. I'd just like the national media to ask him if abortion is okay for him and his family, but not
for the rest of America. We're not looking at it as a big issue, we're looking at it as a situation of
people not being told the truth. I think the American people have a right to know everything there
is to know about someone running for President."

So, that's the story of an illegal back room abortion arranged by the Republican party President
who ran on a pro-life ticket.

6. Here is what Colin Powell thought of Guard service during Vietnam
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 08:33 AM by NNN0LHI
http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0402/13/nfcnn.09.html

<snip>MCINTYRE: Their drills looked good on film, but for many, service in the Guard was simply the best legal way to avoid the draft in Vietnam. In his autobiography, former joint chiefs chairman, Colin Powell, complained "I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well placed and so many professional athletes managed to wrangle slots in the Reserve and National Guard units."

8. Upon hearing about "Palace Alert",
George Bush checked to make sure he was not qualified...so he could get another dui if necessary to avoid it. It turned out to be a volunteer program, so he was safe. No way was HE gonna volunteer. No way. Whew!!!!! That was close!

10. This is in direct opposition to what Bush "wrote" in his book
He said that he didn't want to go to Vietnam, so he joined the TANG so he could fly.

The lies are too thick.

16. Gee, maybe he should have turned down the guard berth Daddy got him
Edited on Sat Feb-14-04 10:30 AM by Woodstock
Duh, maybe that might have just helped a tad if he wanted to see active duty?

Maybe, just maybe, if Daddy hadn't used his connections to get him in the Guard (which was then known as the way rich kids avoided active service) then he might have gotten to see combat.

Besides, he said himself he didn't want to go.

Can't they even get their lies straight?

21. He killed lotsa VC. Wheredaya think he was during those "missing" months?
Super Secret Special Ops mission. Parachuted alone at night from high altitude into the jungle along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Armed only with a Swiss Army knife, Lt. Bush captured and destroyed all of the VC's weapons of mass destruction.

Thousands of NVA and VC were personally dispatched to that great rice bowl in the sky by the courageous Texan.

Just think of the thousands of living American vets who owe their lives to this Top Secret operation. That ungrateful, traitorous senator from Massachusetts is one of them.

...and that's why President Bush was never in Alabama.

He was secretly saving American lives. Gawdbless'm!

20. Bush not only is no John Kerry, he's not even Dan Quayle !!
Remember HIM ?? Mister "Deer-In-The-Headlights"? Mister "Potatoe"-Head?

Yeah, Quayle wasn't exactly the brightest star in his Washington years, he also went the glorified draft-dodger National Guard route (in Indiana), but at least he put in his time in the NG. (I think!)

23. Bush also said he wanted to do something good for humanity
when he left the Guard, like work with poor people in third world countries, or root out corporate criminals. Unfortunately, Mother Teresa was already hard at work, so bush decided that the best way to know who the corporate crooks were was to become one himself. Then, before he could do anything about them, he was made president...then, 9/11, and everything changed.

But he still WANTED to do good, so that makes everything he's ever done OK!
