Iraq insurgents free prisoners in raid, 22 dead

FALLUJA, Iraq, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Dozens of anti-American insurgents stormed Iraqi security compounds in the volatile town of Falluja on Saturday in a bold attack that left at least 22 people dead and freed a number of prisoners.

Falluja police chief Aboud al-Dulaimi said about 70 guerrillas firing rockets, mortars and machineguns launched the closely coordinated attack on a police headquarters as well as on a compound for the Iraqi Civil Defence Corps (ICDC) and the mayor's office.

Police and hospital officials said 14 policemen, four insurgents and four civilians were killed in the attack, the latest in a series of assaults on Iraqi security forces seen by the insurgents as supporting the U.S. occupation.

At least 35 others were wounded in the attack.

We've got to just get outta there and allow the United Nations to come in and do what it can.

I hope that DUers aren't still carrying around this notion that Washington does humanitarian work? Even the Free Republic crowd doesn't believe that anymore. And the rest of the world certainly sees the truth. We're only their for a geopolitical stronghold on the region and to sell off Iraqi business to US investment.

We should leave and let the people of the country determine their own future. I hate our govt but I wouldn't want anyone else coming in saying they were going to "fix it".

4. Major civil war, and we knew this would happen

major civil war and now we sit and watch and the rotation units have just been sent in..now when I watch the news I know someone I love so much is thrown into this and theres nothing I can do. the soldiers that are going in are green and have no idea what its like over there. Where are the soldiers? they are spread so thin there arent enough ....and believe me they arent re enlisting, no matter how Rummy tries to spin it to pretend there wont be a draft. No doubt the soldiers are busy protecting the contingents of republicans wandering around over there or the oil fields..thats all thats important to the bu$sh administration...the people there are NOT his first priority, and the soldiers are totally meaningless to him.
