Doubts Over "Say No to Sex" Drive
Researchers have cast doubt on the effectiveness of schemes promoting teenage sexual abstinence, on which the White House plans to double federal spending.

The schemes bar any discussion of birth control to prevent pregnancy or Aids.

Studies at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention of declining teenage birth and pregnancy rates conclude that prevention programmes should emphasise abstinence and contraception. "Both are important," said John Santelli, the lead author of the study, which has not been published.

A Minnesota study found that sexual activity doubled among junior high school students involved in an abstinence-only scheme.

Independent researchers said two years ago that no reliable evidence exists on whether abstinence-only schemes work.

2. God made man and woman; and he made them to have sex!!!
What did people do before the word marriage was written down? Time did not begin with Moses and the 10 commandments or are people so ignorant that they really don't understand this?

3. Free will
We were given free will so that we are different than animals. Free will trumps free love any day.

4. There was a woman on TV tonight (can't remember which show)
an actress (about 35 or so), who said she was a virgin and was "saving herself" for her husband. Maybe I'm old and jaded, but it seems to me that some of these women must be terribly disappointed when the time comes, either with the sex itself, or when the marriage just doesn't work out and the guy leaves her. All those years wasted.

5. The thing that gets me..
..about these abstinence-only, no-sex-before-marriage types is how ridiculous their arguments seem in the right light. There are people out there who never get married. Are the sex loonies seriously suggesting such people should never have sex their entire lives? I'm no expert, but my opinion is that denial of intercourse for long enough would tend to make people depressed or just plain fucking bonkers. No wonder we have so many serial killers per capita here. Nothing makes a person go nuts faster than telling them not to engage in a basic human desire.

7. This idea is just ridiculous with the way that our culture
pushes sex on us. Nothing is going to change the sexual behavior of teenagers in the society that we live in.

We need to teach them to be responsible, anyway. We can't treat the issue as if it doesn't exist. Sex is just part of growing up.
