Obama vows to end global warming 'denial' after Gore talks
Source: AFP

CHICAGO (AFP) – President-elect Barack Obama said Tuesday his administration would brook no further delay in tackling climate change after discussing global warming with former vice president Al Gore.

Sitting between Gore and his vice president-elect Joseph Biden following the hour-long meeting, Obama told reporters: "All three of us are in agreement that the time for delay is over. The time for denial is over.

"We all believe what the scientists have been telling us for years now, that this is a matter of urgency and national security, and it has to be dealt with in a serious way. That is what I intend my administration to do," he said.

Since his defeat in the 2000 presidential election, Gore has been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his relentless efforts to combat climate change and starred in an Oscar-winning documentary called "An Inconvenient Truth."

13. Unfortunately, Mother nature will not accept 13 Trillion dollars to fix the environment
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 04:02 AM by TheEuclideanOne
How much damage had been done? Well, one positive aspect (if you can consider it) of the economic meltdown and the war, is that the damage is quite visible. All you have to do is open your eyes to see how much this Administration has fucked everything up. Funny.....A few years ago, I used to just be able to say this about the war. But now we have two very visible fuckups with longstanding negative repercussions.

As most are aware, our environment has been receiving consistent, very deep and very serious damage by this administration. Let's compare it to the current economic situation where the financial institutions and lowered regulations were causing the problem and all parties benefiting knew that the problems were occurring, but were too greedy to stop their behavior. One day, the damage that was being done became too big to reverse. The solution? We really don't have one, do we? We are throwing 13 Trillion dollars at the problem, but we don't really know the extent of the damage. We hope that this may fix things and as drastic as this is, but who can say for sure. Unfortunately, Mother nature will not accept 13 Trillion dollars to fix the environment. Hopefully Obama can start reversing the Bush Environment. I think that when history looks back at this, it won't absolve Bush of jack shit, the only thing that it will show is that it was a godsend that McCain didn't get elected and continue Bush's work.

15. Well you may die. I can't say if that is good or bad.
Depending on how far we go with the environment (in either direction) will determine whether that statement is true for future generations. It is probably not the time yet to try to find that library in NY where you can burn books to survive. However, if we had gotten somebody like a Sarah Palin in office, you can be pretty confident, that Mother nature will open a can of whoop ass on us.

19. It's about time somebody in power acknowledged the
blatantly obvious, inconvenient truth about global warming. Global warming is one of the most important things we can work on, believe it or not. If Mother Nature is not happy, NO ONE will be happy. Trust me.
