Brown-Forman (maker of Jack Daniel's) reports rise in 2Q earnings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Brown-Forman Corp. said Friday its second-quarter profit rose 11 percent on gains by its Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and Finlandia vodka brands.

The liquor company also raised its full-year earnings projection due to a predicted net gain from the expected sale of its Bolla and Fontana Candida wine brands.

Company CEO Paul Varga said Friday he was pleased with the first-half showing in a challenging economy.

He called it "a testimony to the stability of our company, the strength and resiliency of our brands ... and the quality of our cash flows and balance sheet."

They sold the Bolla brand of wine, which accounted for most of the growth in earnings.
