In Wisconsin, die-hard Dean asks voters for second look
OSHKOSH, Wis. – Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean campaigned yesterday at an old opera house where supporters said his message needs to be heard despite his failure to win a single primary in 14 tries thus far.

Facing polls that show him trailing Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry by more than 30 percentage points, Dean urged voters to take a second look at his candidacy based on his record as governor and his early opposition to Bush administration policies, including the war in Iraq.

Here and later before a friendly crowd made up largely of students on the the University of Wisconsin Madison campus, Dean pointed to his successes in Vermont at providing health insurance coverage for nearly all children and for the working poor.

He said Democrats and Republicans in Washington "haven't delivered because they are more beholden to the AMA and the HMOs and the health insurance industry and the pharmaceutical companies than they are to the American people."

(snip)

"The way to beat George Bush, whose White House is a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate America, is with a candidate from outside Washington," Dean said. "We won't represent real change in America this fall if we nominate somebody who is a fixture and an insider in Washington, D.C."

1. Dean is weak on national security issues and Bush will.....
play this card because it's all he has left.

John Kerry 04'

2. I don't think the good doctor is weak
on anything. All he has to do is name is national security advisor (maybe Clinton or someone else with impecable credentials). He is a very smart man and understands the issues whether he has actually 'done' national security. What makes Kerry strong? Senate briefings?

3. I live in Green Bay and I'm voting for Dennis Kucinich on Tuesday
The only way Howard Dean could get my vote now would be through my ABB pledge.

It isn't his core platform issues, they're ok-it's Howard Dean as I now perceive him.

As an independent I'm voting for Dennis Kucinich Tuesday.

Not Howard Dean.

4. Kerry is a super rich Insider
And I agree that my perception of Dean isn't that positive either. He doesn't come across as all that sincere but his political record is more impressive than Kerry's.

Of course Kucinich is the best candidate by far out there, but the media, and it's game of covering politics like it's a stock car race, only emphasizing leads, never honing in on issues, has 99% of the public more interested in poll results than issues.

It's a shame that Dean was taken down by the media focus on sensationalism but until people wise up enough to focus on issues and not which team the news says is winning, whatever we end up with, we deserve.

It's not that difficult to engage and pay attention.
