Tutu: U.S. Should Admit Iraq War Was Wrong
By ALEXANDRA ZAVIS
Associated Press Writer

February 13, 2004, 10:44 AM EST

LONDON -- Veteran human rights campaigner and Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Friday urged the United States and Britain to acknowledge the war in Iraq was wrong and to work with the international community to rebuild the country.

"The United States and Britain were not the authority to declare that war and they know it, because they went to the U.N. to try to get the sanction of the U.N," Tutu said in an interview with The Associated Press in the chapel of his alma mater, King's College London.

"And the justification that they gave at that time -- totally, totally unfounded. ... It is over 11 months after the war, and they have not found these weapons of mass destruction."

snip.................

"If they talk about regime change, who determines that?" he asked. "Is it determined by those who are the most powerful, or do you believe that there is something called the rule of law?"

more......................

3. The lie still rules
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 11:52 AM by PATRICK
The simplest and most evident truth is still sliding off the right flank of US cognitive dissonance. Can't face the issue head on, can't look at the facts, can't demand more, can't assign blame to the obvious responsible people, can't read the most transparent human nature, can't credit even the public goals of Bush-Cheney for war and dominance and oil Empire, can't escape the WH setting the talking points even in their own criticism. Can't remember their own complicity(media) can't think of their own structural failure, can't accept responsibility, can't imagine a world otherwise that the nonsense they print.

5. The neocon cult who wanted this war for their profit,...
,...will never apologize because they are greedy black holes who don't give a damn about the rest of humanity.

Tutu speaks on behalf of humanity. The neocon cult only act on behalf of themselves.

6. Absolutely the only formula for getting out of the quagmire.
Bush has hideously soiled the honor and reputation of the United States and, of course, is not man enough to admit it. Bishop Tutu is correct. The next president will have to go before the world community, ask forgiveness for the evils perpetrated by his predecessor, and ask for their help in managing an exit from Iraq that will not destroy the entire region.

7. neocons are not the US. We the People acknowledge the
wrong-ness of the whole invasion. We have from before the beginning.

The US is being held hostage by greedy megalomaniacs. The honor of our people is being sold to the lowest bidding contractor. There are only corporations.
