Denver Mayor to join rally decrying effort to alter Constitution
Hickenlooper to join rally decrying effort to alter Constitution

By Mark P. Couch
Denver Post Staff Writer

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper used some of his political clout on Thursday to denounce efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution to prohibit same-sex marriages.

The mayor, who has picked several gay and lesbian leaders to serve in his new administration, said he plans to speak against the amendment at a rally on Valentine's Day.

"I don't think that it's government's role to dictate to religious institutions what they should or should not allow," Hickenlooper said.

1. Good for the mayor!
Every mayor needs to come forward--along with city council members, county supervisors, legislators, other prominent people at local and state levels. We can defeat this thing.
