Kerry campaign gains new strength as Bush loses ground
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1520&ncid=1520&e=2&u=/afp/20040213/pl_afp/us_vote_040213074017

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Senator John Kerry (news - web sites)'s race for the Democratic presidential nomination gathered pace after it was revealed that former general Wesley Clark (news - web sites), who dropped out Wednesday, would endorse the frontrunner.

A new opinion poll also showed US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) was losing ground to Kerry, as a majority of Americans concluded he either lied or deliberately exaggerated evidence that Iraq (news - web sites) possessed weapons of mass destruction

Fifty-four percent of those questioned in the Washington Post-ABC News survey insisted the president exaggerated or lied about prewar intelligence.

As a result, if elections were held today, Kerry would beat Bush by 52 percent to 43 percent among registered voters, according to the poll.

1. That's some good news.
52 to 43 (how appropriate!). I just hope that the infidelity story doesn't put a dent in the momentum.....

3. In case you didn't notice there was no infidelity story

I know Drudge can be convincing to some, but most people actually can see through his smoke and mirrors BS. It was just more rumor and innuendo that the Rethugs have used to fool some weak minded individuals.

4. Bye Bye Pres. AWOL, Hello, President Purple Heart!!!
i know the primaries aren't over, and I'll support whoever get's the nomination, but the more the repukes go after Kerry, the more I want to stand behind him.

attacking kerry now, IMHO, will just solidify the democratic base behind him. so, bring it the fuck on, pres. AWOL!!

5. Only 42% said they didn't exaggerate.
That's 54% to 42% in favor of exaggeration. A pretty wide difference.

7. Did Drudge get any traction in Cable News Fantasy Land last night?
I didn't have time to catch any of the cable news shows last night. Did anyone bring up drudge?

If not, is it possible that the media is finally figuring out how badly its been used by stories planted in unreliable sources, then promoted via cable news to the main feed?

This would be a tremendous sea change, and a terrible defeat for the right.

8. I caught "Special Report" on Faux last night
and they took a pass. You could tell they were editing their answers to reflect the possibility that Kerry might implode.

Right wing radio did the story but I do not think any of the cable news outlets mentioned until Imus's question this morning.

12. Turning the channel late last night, I caught Imus. . .
with Lou Dobbs on the phone. Imus asked if Dobbs had heard about Drudge's claim and Dobb's said he had but the story wasn't going anywhere without a lot more confirmation. Imus said something to the effect he thought it an unlikely story and at that point, when I learned Kerry wouldn't be one for another hour or so, I turned the silly program off.
