Bush's driving records disclosed

By Dave Moniz and Jim Drinkard, USA TODAY

<snip>The traffic violations are significant in the context of Bush's military career. At the time Bush enlisted in the Texas National Guard, the Air Force typically would have had to issue a waiver for an applicant who had multiple arrests or driving violations.

An officer who served at the same time as the president, former Texas Air National Guard pilot Dean Roome, was required by the Air Force to get a waiver for a $25 speeding ticket when he enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1967.

There is no record of an enlistment waiver in Bush's military file.

<snip>

The White House described the four traffic incidents as two "negligent collisions" in July and August 1962 and two speeding tickets in July and August 1964. Bush was a teenager at the time.

<snip>
Bush's military file contained a second document that also asked for information on any arrests. Portions of that page, his enlistment application, are also blacked out.

1. And they couldn't do this 4 years ago....why?
The press hardly even registered this. Now we were stuck with Bush for 4 years.

3. 4 years ago, Bu$h was just a candidate
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 09:23 AM by DoYouEverWonder
The argument was that W didn't have to release any information, since he hadn't been elected yet? If he lost the election everyone would know his personal business which he argued was still private. Since the media moguls wanted regime change in America they were more than willing to give W a free pass.

So here we are 4 years later, but the big difference is now W is the Commander in Chief and he has sent American troops to war twice already. Plus many of those that he is sending are National Guard who were recruited during peace time and told all they had to do was one weekend a month. Now most of them have been in war zones for a year at a time, only to get orders to turn around an go back again. One weekend a month my ass!

Need any more reasons why Bu$h's military record is a much bigger issue this time?

7. Kerry is 'just' a candidate...
But they're trying to dig up plenty of dirt there. Sounds like there might be a bit of a double standard there.

20. Of course
there is always a double standard, thats part of the problem with Bush. there is one standard for the rich and aristocratic and another one for the rest of us, not to mention the different standards for Democratic and Republicans... Just look at Whitewater vs Harken/Arbusto/Enron/Hallibuton etc.

12. Bush Quote
Why has this quote not made the media? Direct from Bush's
lips why he joined the guard to avoid going to Veitnam.

White House Press Breifing, Tuesday, Feb10

As stated by one of the reporters. Houston Chronicle 1994.
President Bush said "I was not repaired to shoot my ear drum off
or go to Canada so I decided to better my self by learning how to
fly airplanes."

16. That and his follow up response
about the Viet Nam War was run by politicians and that was why he did support that war? Hey W, who the hell is running this war? Last time I looked the key people running this war are not only politicians, most of them are chickenhawks!

6. This could be BIG...
couple this with his jumping ahead of 300+ in line to get into the TANG, and then scoring exactly the lowest possible score to be trained as a pilot(of a fighter/interceptor model that wasn't even used in 'Nam), nobody who can identify him as having shown up for actual duty in AL, etc. etc. etc....

10. Why no record of his DUI?
What am I missing? Did the DUI happen after he was out of the guard?

Also, why hasn't anyone picked up on the fact that he received a new license number around the time he became governor? His driving record was purged with the old number.

11. Was his original driver's license number on it?
Unless they blacked that out too, seems to me that the driver's license number he had before becoming Governor of TX should be on that record.

18. Is Drivers license # the same as SSN? ???
I can see why a Social Security Number would be blacked out to prevent Identity Theft.
I had read in a previous post that his SSN was changed.
Was the actual Social Security number changed or was the Drivers License number changed?

19. Depends on what state you are in
In WI, they are entirely unrelated. I've heard that in some states, however, they are the same.

And it was the TX Driver's license number that was changed. Changing his SSN would require Federal intervention, while he could direct that his own DL# be changed once he became Governor.

Did you hear the one about identity thief being arrested -- not because he stole an identity, but the identity he stole was of a wanted criminal.
