Poll: Public’s trust in Bush at a low ebb
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4253596/

A majority of Americans believe President Bush either lied or deliberately exaggerated evidence that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction in order to justify war, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey results, which also show declining support for the war in Iraq and for Bush's leadership in general, indicate the public is increasingly questioning the president's truthfulness -- a concern for Bush's political advisers as his reelection bid gets underway.

Barely half -- 52 percent -- now believe Bush is "honest and trustworthy," down 7 percentage points since late October and his worst showing since the question was first asked, in March 1999. At his best, in the summer of 2002, Bush was viewed as honest by 71 percent. The survey found that nearly seven in 10 think Bush "honestly believed" Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Even so, 54 percent thought Bush exaggerated or lied about prewar intelligence.....

These doubts have affected Bush's reelection prospects. In a head-to-head matchup, Kerry beat Bush by 52 percent to 43 percent among registered voters. Bush had more passionate support -- 83 percent of his backers said their support was strong, while 59 percent of Kerry supporters said so -- and retains an advantage over Kerry in dealing with Iraq and the war on terrorism. But the Democrat was seen as better able to handle the economy and jobs, education, and health care -- all top issues with voters this year.... (more)

The big story in all this is that Kerry has a nine point lead over the chimp. This is impressive.

1. Notice the headline of the article
The use of the phrase "a low ebb" is meant to imply that these numbers will soon be rising again. The media is still trying its hardest not to buy into this.

2. I was thinking: "Don't worry, it'll get lower!"
It will be interesting to see just how low Bush's approval ratings can drop before he leaves office. I mean how often do you see a sitting president polling below 50%? It's like he's doing the PResidential Limbo.

Chortle,

The Plaid Adder

5. Yeah, the headline should be "Trust in Bush Continues to Plummet"
But never in our GOP-whore media...

8. "Ebb"
Yes, what crock. I thought the same thing. How about "free fall"? That's just as valid a term.

3. I can't imagine why.
Everyone except Bush himself knows where he was during his Guard service and the Bush administration did not reveal the identity of a CIA operative but the White House is cooperating with the 9/11 commission since democrats support terrorism and are not good Americans just as the Jews were not good Germans and government spending has gone down if you do not count the increased government spending but the boxes were labeled "Made in USA" even though the $400 billion decorative medicare turkey was not labeled $525 billion and Bush's plane to Baghdad was spotted because before Saddam bought the uranium and became an urgent but not imminent threat Bush had no plans on his desk to invade Iraq since the aircraft carrier was too far offshore for the Navy to make a large enough banner to describe the WMD we have found in Iraq some of which could hit the US and some of which Saddam was giving to Osama for following Saddam's plans and using Iraqi hijackers on 9/11 but everyone got a tax cut which allowed Iraqi oil revenue to pay for the cost of the reconstruction of Iraq after the invasion by a small number of troops who would be greeted with floral program related activities because Bush and Rice did not ignore the August 6, 2001 intelligence briefing warning of the upcoming 9/11 attacks and that is why Bush wrote the poem that he did not write blaming Laura for dropping the dog.

There is no subject so shallow, serious, or somber that Bush will not lie about it. The only other option is not to lie. And that Bush can not do.

Ridiculing Bush over his incessant lying needs to become commonplace.

4. What took the public so long to come around? An asleep media.
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Free ride Bush rode the media train for years. Problem is the media will decide that the public is growing tired of the Bush stories and will let up. This administration is corrupt and I won't sit still until I hear the media use the word corrupt.

9. Well its about time
I have no sympathy for those who feel let down or betrayed by Saint Shrub. He was never an honest man. And there was plenty of info available all along. They refused to see it - till now. Maybe that's why the AWOL story is so big. Maybe its the shock factor for all the former Shrub-worshippers.
