Peace prize hopefuls list 'longest ever' (Bush & Blair Included)
The number of hopefuls for this year's Nobel Prize for Peace is the longest ever in the history of the prestigious award, the Nobel Institute said.

By February 1, the deadline for nominations, the Institute had received the names of 173 individuals and organisations, believed to include French President Jacques Chirac, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and American President George W. Bush.

"This is the highest number ever," Geir Lundestad, head of the Nobel Institute told AFP.

And the list could become a little longer still: Nobel committee members have until March 2 to put forward their own candidates, and there is the chance that some letters sent before February 1 could still be in the post.

4. Good Gawd....
This is so pathetic! Bush & Blair on the list for the peace prize. I think I'm caught in some chrono synclastic infundibulum (This just popped into my mind--from Vonnegut's "Sirens of Titan"--us oldies would remember.)

I dunno--just another way of saying everything is spinning out of control. :silly:

5. If the commitee picks Blair or Bush...
...they will prove the Freepers right. The prize will be a joke. Jimmy Carter should give his back.

7. Boy, the bar must be pretty low for nominations.
To associate these two "Butchers of Baghdad" with peace is sickening.
