Bird Flu Found in Flocks in Two More U.S. States (PA, NJ)
A strain of bird flu which is devastating to commercial chicken flocks but not harmful to humans has spread into Pennsylvania and more cases may be found in Delaware, agriculture officials in both states said on Thursday.

The disease was also confirmed in four small poultry markets in northeastern New Jersey...

I thought it was harmful to humans.

I guess this is a different strain than the one in SE Asia?

4. Totally different strain
Of course, if you're in the poultry business, it's plenty harmful, and if the regualtory agencies don't get busy with large scale culling, this will continue to spread throughout the Mid Atlantic.

5. US avian flu is H7
The H7 avian influenza in the three states is a different strain than the H5N1 virus that has devastated flocks in 10 nations in Asia. The H5N1 has killed 19 people so far.

7. One related article I read
found on Google News here, says this is a slightly different strain than the flu found in other states. In other word, if I may be so bold as to speculate, we either have multiple strains or this thing is slowly mutating. Into what could be anybody's guess if that's what is happening, but in either case- multiple strains or mutation- we're talking about a potentially serious situation.

Could someone be testing our complacency as a nation? It is a possibility.
