Lt. Gov. Knoll funeral Tuesday in Pittsburgh
Source: York Daily Record

PITTSBURGH—A service will be held for Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh.
The funeral Mass is scheduled for noon on Tuesday.

Knoll was Pennsylvania's first female lieutenant governor. She was diagnosed in July with neuroendocrine cancer and died Nov. 12. She was 78.

At a memorial service in the state Capitol Rotunda on Friday, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton said Knoll was known as a tough-as-steel woman who broke barriers and defied odds, and encouraged others to do the same.

Clinton recalled that Knoll had joined her at Pittsburgh's St. Patrick's Day parade during Clinton's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

She told the mourners she respected and admired Knoll "as a pioneer and a path breaker for women in politics."

Hillary was right, but that isn't the whole story. Catherine was a very likeable,
very loyal friend, one who took her job very seriously. She was absolutely devatstated
when the Hershey chocolate factory decided to leave Pennsylvania and move to Mexico,
not for the lost revenue, but for all the out-of-work Pennsylvanians.

Catherine also loved making other people happy, and always remembered stuff. On our 25th
wedding anniversary, she sent us a big plaque of friendship and appreciation, and invited
us to visit her at the PA legislature (we never made it, but we knew she meant it--Catherine
was NOT a "let's do lunch" type). She used to take pictures, and always sent copies to those
in the pictures. She took some great pics of me, my daughter and Wes Clark one New Year's,
and sure enough, a month later, there they were in the mail. Ed Rendell has lost a great Lt.
Governor, but the people of Pennsylvania have lost a friend. So have I.
