Army: Soldier accused of trying to provide info to al-Qaida
FORT LEWIS, Wash. -- A National Guardsman stationed at Fort Lewis was arrested Thursday and accused of trying to provide information to the al-Qaida terrorist network, the Army said.

Army Lt. Col. Stephen Barger said Spc. Ryan G. Anderson was being held "pending criminal charges of aiding the enemy by wrongfully attempting to communicate and give intelligence to the al-Qaida terrorist network."

Anderson, 26, from Everett, Wash., became a Muslim during the last five years, defense officials said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, defense officials said Anderson signed onto extremist chat rooms on the Internet and tried to get in touch with al-Qaida operatives.

1. Sounds overreactive or hyped to me.
",...defense officials said Anderson signed onto extremist chat rooms on the Internet and tried to get in touch with al-Qaida operatives."

This will likely turn out like the previous carefully chosen stories thrown out to the media hyenas about service personnel supposedly conspiring with "the enemy" (all of whom I believe have been Muslim).

2. The last three Al-Queda "spies".

They turned out to be innocent. Nothing but trumped up rubbish. It's something to wet the media's appetite on.

I'd kinda figure they'd get wise to this by now.
