Cspan1. This is the amendment that bans same-sex marriages, but allows civil unions.

96 YES 103 NO - AMENDMENT IS NOT ADOPTED

12. Its not over yet
they are going to get together in about 15 minutes to figure out were to go from here. I believe, I could be wrong, that it will not be over until they approve an amendment or close the constitutional session (is that what its called?).

having lived there for 15 years, I should know this . . . seems to me they managed to overturn a seatbelt law some years ago . . . could this issue end up going to the voters? . . .

24. A constitutional amendment requires a referendum
I believe that a constitutional amendment requires majority support in two consecutive legislatures and then must get majority support in a referendum. The referendum is the good part because the polls indicate that the amendment may very well fail if it goes to the public.
