BRIEF-Republican senator blocks US Treasury bailout program watchdog
Source: fx street.com Reuters

WASHINGTON, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Sen. Christopher Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat
and chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, on Friday:
* Said the nomination of Neil Barofsky to be watchdog of the U.S.
Treasury Dept's $700 billion bailout program is blocked by an unnamed Republican
senator or senators.

1. Name him

And let's find out why he doesn't want a watchdog over the bailout program.

3. This whole idea of concealing the name of congress
members being able to bring things to a standstill without being named is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. I'd like to know who or what allows it.

8. If it is that easy, why didn't someone just block telecom immunity?

6. This whole "hold" idea makes me wonder: Why are we concerned about 60?
If one Senator can block something, then we don't need 60 to prevent filibusters. We need 100 to prevent to holds because a hold seems to be as effective as a filibuster.

Any Senator who puts a hold on anything should be publicly exposed, and any hold (if they continue to allow them at all) should have a definitive and short time limit.

7. Now why would they want oversight on this?!?!
I mean, sheesh! How the hell can they loot the treasury more if someone is paying attention to where the money is going.

Really... it's a no-brainer.

9. Accuse a random right wing Rep and put pressure on the actual senator
to either come clean or stab a fellow Rep in the back.
