Screws turned on anti-whalers
Andrew Darby, Hobart
November 21, 2008

WITH Japan demanding stronger action against the hardline anti-whaling activists of Sea Shepherd, the group alleges the Rudd Government has increased pressure on it.

Sea Shepherd president Paul Watson said the tone of the official treatment of his organisation had changed to subtle harassment, intended to push it out of Australia.

He said that despite a dozen untroubled visits in recent years, he was detained for questioning by immigration officials on arrival in Sydney recently.

A series of personal and financial costs imposed by the Government also threatened his campaign.

"It's a passive-aggressive approach," Captain Watson said. "We were better treated under the Howard government."

Not exactly the gravitas of say a Morgan Freeman, but better than nothing I suppose.

4. If she is joining them, I'd say that has magnificent gravitas and many chances
for more substantial publicizing of their important mission. Kudos to a very brave lady; it is a dangerous commission she has given to herself.

6. Sea Shepherd on TV
The Sea Shepherd and its crew will be getting a little more attention soon, via the Discovery channel:

They of course had to give the program a provocative title -- Whale Wars -- and it remains to be seen which way it slants.

8. It's already aired two shows
I don't think it's pro-whaling by any stretch.
