Bush releases arrest details
<clips>

THE White House today released details of President George W Bush's arrests and traffic violations as a young man amid questions about his military service at the height of the Vietnam war.

Spokesman Scott McClellan revealed the information because of questions stemming from the fact that they were blacked out on National Guard forms given to US media, sparking more questions about Bush's actions 30 years ago.

McClellan said Bush had previously disclosed arrests for stealing a Christmas wreath while a student at Yale University, and for rowdiness at a football game.

1. They did NOT release unblacked-out copies
This is just from what Scott McClellan said during press gaggle on AF1- no info that this is all that was blacked out.

5. Interesting paragraph-some would call this spin some would not
Bush, 57, avoided combat in Vietnam by enlisting in the Texas Air National Guard, but opposition Democrats have raised questions about whether he served during a murky period between May 1972 and May 1973.

20. DWI in the 70s?
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 04:14 PM by mac2
GW Bush has admitted to being a drunk and druggie right up until his forties. That's when he was converted.

He was discharged from duty about 1973. He would not pass a physical or drug test would he to fly?

He was born in 1946. In the 70s, he would be in his late twenties.

Just a rich kid having a good time.

21. Wasn't he arrested in Kennebunkport for DUI in the 1970's?
Remember, it came out late in the 2000 campaign and Poppy nearly went crazy!

Was Junior using his Texas driver's license in Maine? Was this license the one he later exchanged for a new one? Or, did he have a Maine license, too?

11. Check out this line from McLellan.
"The American people deserve better. They deserve an honest discussion about leadership in a time of war."

Is that why you blacked out Bush's records?

13. Christmas wreath stolen?
How cute stealing wreath? You mean drunkenness at a football game?

This is all distraction from his AWOL. McClellan was getting pressure from the press when he said to a reporters, he didn't want to get into gutter politics. She said, by asking that question...she wasn't. She just wanted a straight answer. He never did answer it.

McClellan didn't want to get into "gutter politics"? Right now, he is in the bowels of the gutter giants. In other words, don't ask embarrassing questions that might make the voters think about the truth.

I long for the days of Clinton's cuddly press secretaries who didn't talk in riddles and circles. They'd just say...don't know that..can't tell you until I ask about it...etc. I'll get back to you on that. The press was insinuating and obnoxious..now it is reversed don't you think?

28. My feeling exactly! "President" and "arrest records" used together.
And those were the pre-guard arrests. Not the post-68 stuff, which we all know includes a DUI in Maine. Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, George W. Bu$h, a repeat offender.

29. As a baseball afficionado and commissioner wannabe...
surely Junior can appreciate the concept of "three strikes and you're out".

He NEVER should have been elected dog catcher of Houston...much less governor of Texas and presidential usurper!

In the end, I hope he gets sent to the Hague to do some serious time.

25. From today's gaggle:
Q Scott, just to keep trolling for a minute. This sheet that's in your hand and the blackout that was in one of the newspapers --

MR. McCLELLAN: This is the exact thing in the newspaper.

Q Who did the blackout that showed up in the --

MR. McCLELLAN: You'd have to ask the people who released those documents.

Q Okay. So what you have is something that came from the same source, that was not blacked out?

MR. McCLELLAN: I think that you all recognize that when government agencies or people like the National Guard release information, there are
privacy issues involved. And I expect that they follow those --

Q But the White House got a copy that did not have the blackout.

MR. McCLELLAN: The President's records, that's correct.

Q Glad we asked.

MR. McCLELLAN: Anything else? Thank you.

END 10:17 A.M. EST

Amen, Q. I'm glad you asked, too. Thanks.

I see in the distant, foggy canyons of memory a press that were my heroes. How jarring.

Well, maybe it helps his standing with the serial lawbreaker contingent.

Most people I know haven't been arrested even once.

The White House on Wednesday backed away from President Bush's weekend pledge to release all records from his Air National Guard service.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the administration would not necessarily make public additional records regarding Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, unless the president's aides determine that they are "relevant to this issue."

McClellan refused to commit to releasing medical or disciplinary records that become available to the White House. Bush's aides had released payroll records and other documents on Tuesday that they thought would douse the controversy, but instead they raised new questions about Bush's service."

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/printedition/chi-0402120346feb12,1,...

what's in those disciplinary records?

for that matter, what about the medical ones, too?

possible substance abuse?

37. DL expunged and changed for "security" reasons when governor.
That was the quickie news when the subject came and went back in 99 or 00

I don't know about such things but I assume that erasing driving records and issuing new liscence numbers for *governorships* isn't exacly de rigeur!

My other assumption is that one of the things they wanted to keep "secure" was a vehicular manslaughter or so!
