NYC's Triborough Bridge Renamed for Robert F. Kennedy
Source: NYT/AP

Several generations of Robert F. Kennedy's family have gathered for a ceremony renaming New York City's Triborough Bridge in honor of the slain senator and U.S. attorney general.

Kennedy's wife, Ethel, sons Joseph and Robert Jr., and daughter Kerry were joined Wednesday by dignitaries -- including former President Bill Clinton -- in a Queens park at the foot of the bridge.

Kennedy was assassinated in 1968 while campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination.

In prepared remarks, Ethel Kennedy said, ''I love that the city he knew and cared about returned his devotion.''

The bridge will be the first major public work dedicated to Kennedy in the state he represented from 1965 to 1968. It is a complex of three spans that connect Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens.

10. Maybe a men's room somewhere in Staten Island.
The Bronx voted over 82% Democrat. Nothing named Raygun here.

14. I always forget how "red" Staten Island is
I just looked it up and it went 52-47 McCain. I know my home, Westchester County, went very big for Obama - 63%.

3. A beautiful bridge for a beautiful person. Already on Wikipedia!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triborough_Bridge

The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge, previously referred to as the Triborough Bridge, is a complex of three bridges connecting the New York City boroughs of the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens on Long Island, using what were two islands, Ward's Island and Randall's Island as intermediate rights-of-way between the water crossings. These two islands have been consolidated by landfill.

4. Money Well Spent?
Its all well and good to name the Triboro after RFK, I guess cause he was a senator for NYS for one term. But is it really necessary right now. I am from the NY area and the city is on the verge of economic collapse thanks to the greedy policies of King Bloomie. It is gonna cost the taxpayer's over $4 Million just to rename the bridge and signs etc. Boy, With the way the city is now, they sure do know the right place and time to appropriate money. Believe me, I am truly an admirer of the late RFK, but the city does not need to do this right now.

Anyways, most New Yorkers, including myself, will continue to call it the Triboro Bridge long after its renamed because its embedded in our psyches.

9. But I thought Bloomie was the best and most popular mayor
in NYC history! At least that's what all the pundits tell me.

5. Republican Stepdad may now have to find another way to get to the airports
and it'd have to be one that didn't involve the FDR Drive! :P
