9/11 panel wants to question Bush, Clinton
The federal commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks will soon ask President Bush, former President Bill Clinton and their vice presidents to testify in public about possible warnings they might have received from U.S. intelligence sources before the attacks.

“We need them to testify,” former New Jersey Gov. Thomas H. Kean, the bipartisan commission’s chairman, was quoted as saying in The Record of Bergen County, N.J., in a story published Thursday. He said the panel would issue formal invitations within the next few weeks, although he conceded that all four men would probably decline to be questioned at a public forum.

However, Kean said their cooperation was crucial to the commission’s work, so he hoped they would at least consent to private interviews with the panel.

1. I hope Clinton and Gore call their bluff
Open hearings, televised. I'd love to see Clinton and Gore clearly articulate what they new prior to leaving office.

2. MTP
Didn't * say he wouldn't testify, but might be open to "visiting" with the commission during the Meet the Press interview.

I would love to see Clinton speak, followed by *.

3. And why would they want this to be public?
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 11:25 AM by leetrisck
They "interviewed" Condi Rice with nor cameras, no oath, no publicity. Clinton said a long time ago he would do it but if bush isn't forced to do it, I hope Clinton doesn't although it might help to know his info.

5. Whether or not Bush* and his corrupt minions agree to
testify, Clinton and Gore should volunteer to testify UNDER OATH to the commission, making it clear they are doing so in the best interests of truth and the safety of nation. Let the sunshine in!

For the nation's top national security adviser to refuse to testify to Congress under oath is scandalous, and the Democrats should say so every opportunity they get. What is Condoleezza hiding?

10. I agree.
I was thinking the exact same thing. If Clinton and Gore both testify under oath then Rice and Cheney and Bush* would be shamed into haveing to do it themselves.

Maybe then people will see what kind of weasels are running this country.

4. "I don't testify"
We'll see about that. Either Bush testifies, he goes to jail, or some people on the commision start dying, resigning, etc.

Let's hope we never see the third.

BTW, the Yahoo headline is even better for Mr. "I Don't Testify":

7. Clinton/Gore will be there with bells on and
be able to speak, blink and breath at the same time.

Bush won't testify and just visit? Did you guys notice in his MTP interview how he referred to "my speeches" with apparent pride and when Russert referred to an issue in one way, Bush would correct him and use another name for it saying, "that's what I call..." or "I like to call that..."

His ability to speak aloud in public is predicated on intense scripting and, no doubt, constant practice and maybe even flashcards.

How can his handlers get questions from this panel ahead of time?

9. They could talk about Hart-Rudman commission
Clinton was concerned about terrorism and felt it was a great threat - they created the Hart-Rudman commission which issued a very prescient report on the threat of terrorism. The report was ignored by Bushco.

12. It will probably be private...
Why was the Clinton/Lewinsky thing blown up so much, televised all across the nation, but the 9/11 hearings have to go on behind closed doors, with interviews done in private with private transcripts.

There goes that liberal media again! Maybe we should try to get Kent Starr on the 9/11 panel.

13. Shrub said "testify, no."
Said he's talk to them, give them his thoughts, advice...(like he could give a rock advice). But not testify! Bush and Gore would eat him alive with their testimony. * can't even spell testimony.
