Coleman drops out of GOP leadership race
Source: UPI

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., has dropped his bid to be the next chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, a spokesman said.

With Coleman stepping aside, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas is set to become the next committee's next chairman, The Hill reported.

"Norm is one of the hardest-working and (most) well-liked members of the Republican Conference," Cornyn said. "He has been a tireless advocate for his constituents in Minnesota and I will continue to do whatever I can to help ensure his return to the Senate next year."

The NRSC chairman can recruit GOP candidates and determine whose campaigns to bankroll.Coleman ran for the NRSC chairmanship in 2004, losing to Sen. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina. He expressed interest in the position for the coming Congress, but is locked in a recount in his re-election bid against Democratic challenger Al Franken.

7. It is very simple
They vote Nov 18. The recount begins Nov 19. Norm hasn't been reelected yet. He needs to be a senator to head the NRSC.

14. And it can't be too helpful to your resume to ...
have to go into a recount against a guy who has never run for any office before.

Yeah, Normie. Let's spread some of your magic to all the Senate campaigns for 2010.

9. Coleman and Cornyn
John Cornyn benefited from the many counties in Texas involved
in voteflipping machines

He with Cheney killed 400 birds in 1 day.. in a canned hunt
in Rolling Rock.. the birds were released in front of them
from nets after having been raised in cages

11. John Cornyn speaks volumes about what direction...
the republicans are going to follow. No compromise, no common goal.
My hope has not changed my expectations of these guys.

16. Coleman bows out of (Republican Senatorial Committee) leadership bid
Source: Star Tribune

Citing his desire to focus on his recount efforts, Sen. Norm Coleman has dropped out of the race to become chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

According to The Hill newspaper, Coleman on Thursday called Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, to tell him that he was ending his bid and supporting Cornyn for the post. Cornyn, who is vice chairman, has no other opposition for the top job.

Coleman spokesman LeRoy Coleman said the senator wants to concentrate on the recount between himself and DFL challenger Al Franken, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday -- a day after the election for NRSC positions. Even after the recount is complete, many expect a legal battle to follow before a winner emerges.

20. Too bad, so sad for Mr. Empty Suit
But Cornyn should be a worthy successor to Liddy "Train Wreck" Dole, under whose stewardship the Republican Senate majority disappeared. Cornyn could lock the Republicans into the minority for a generation or longer.
