Labor leans to WMD inquiry

Revelations by The Age that Australian troops sent to Iraq were told Saddam Hussein probably couldn't launch weapons of mass destruction increased the likelihood of an independent commission of inquiry, the Opposition said last night.

Until now Labor had taken the position that a decision on a further inquiry should only be made after a parliamentary committee completes the investigation it has already under way.

The Age revealed last week that former weapons inspector Roger Hill told Australian troops about to enter Iraq that Saddam did not have the capability to launch WMD...cont'd
