Red Cross waits to see Saddam
Geneva - The Red Cross has visited imprisoned officials of Saddam Hussein's toppled regime and expressed confidence that US authorities will allow it to see the former Iraqi dictator "sooner rather than later."

"He's a POW and supposed to be like any POW," Nada Doumani, speaking for the International Committee of the Red Cross, said on Wednesday. The ICRC requested permission to visit Saddam soon after he was captured on December 13 and the United States declared him a prisoner of war.

US officials refused to comment on anything related to Saddam's interrogation and referred questions to the Red Cross.

Doumani said that the neutral, Swiss-run ICRC had seen most if not all of the 43 other high-ranking Iraqis captured by coalition forces.

1. Have been wanting to see more of Saddam
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 07:33 AM by Angel_O_Peace
Was thinking just the other day that Saddam hasn't been in the news much since his "capture". Perhaps the bruises from interrogation need to heal before the ICRC can see him. Or, maybe it's all just part and parcel of the secrets the BushCo administration likes to keep.

Too many secrets in the last 3+ years, not enough info or truth. Surely this will be Chimpy's downfall.
It worked for Nixon

2. What's the betting that ...
... a spokesman from the Red Cross will report that "Saddam is sadly
suffering from the effects of <hiding / diet / stress / age> and is
undergoing treatment for <insert life-threatening condition here>.

Although he responded well at first, it appears he is undergoing a
relapse. The effects of <insert life-threatening condition here>
are varied but include memory loss, disability and timely death."

What d'ya reckon? July? (Allows for the bounce to fade in time for
the unveiling of Osama.)

3. Am somewhat in agreement with you
BushCo/Rove media spin has been so overtly orchestrated that leaves so much room for suspicion regarding anything this administration does and/or with which it is in involved.

However, the ICRC has been trying to gain access to see and report on Saddam since his capture. I hope this report does come soon and the statements released are directly from that agency without the ROVErian spin.
