Muslim boy racially abused at private school, says mother

A Pakistani boy suffered from post-traumatic stress after being racially abused and called "mud face" by fellow pupils at a private school, it was claimed yesterday.
Mikhail Smethurst was six when the abuse took place, according to his mother, Aliya, who is suing the school trust for negligence.

She said her son had been spat at, punched and kicked every day during his year at St Christopher's school in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.

Mrs Smethurst said Mikhail, the only Muslim at the £3,500-a-year primary school, was nicknamed "mud face". After one attack he had to be taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose. Teachers are said to have dressed him as a black cloud for a school play, while his classmates were dressed as white clouds.

"My son had nightmares, re fused to go to school and eventually said to me 'Mummy, why did you make me brown?'"
