Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may - may not, I hope not - but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

63. Oh, he knows what is in there...
but is okay when the president is repub. I was arguing with someone at work about the patriot act, and of course his defense was "if you are not doing anything wrong you don't have to worry". I said "one day we will have a democratic president, maybe even Hillary. How will you feel about it then?" Shut his ass right up.

That is my congressman. My county is whacked. The weekly paper's headline after the election said "GOP Prevails." They did not mention Barack Obama by name anywhere on the front page. It was a local Republican sweep here. He beat an Iraq War vet running as a Democrat, and beat him handily. UGA is in Athens-Clarke county, and other than that county, he wins everywhere. He can say whatever he wants. It makes me ill.

17. Not good for you, but comments like these do not serve the GOP well.
Especially now. They look like fools to the moderates and independents that sense who Obama really is -- a leader.

The GOP civil war is commencing -- and this guy's a Palinist, which is scary as hell for us, but also divisive as hell for them.

Edit35

Here's what I do. I go into a local business or shop and gather up the items I normally buy.... and just before I ring up my items, I ask the owner or clerk...

"By the way, did you support Barack Obama in the election?"

If they answer no, I go through with the purchase with my usual politeness.

If they answer Yes, I say.... "Well you must not need the money that bad if you're willing to vote for more taxes, so I should probably shop someplace else."

Yes, it takes some balls. But it feels great.

I plan to keep it up until I feel less depressed.

That could be another four years.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Yeah....if you're like 12 years old. Some balls! What it really does is just piss off everyone else in line. It doesn't hurt the store owner at all. Some restock time maybe?

"I plan to keep it up until I feel less depressed."

....or are restrained from every store in the area making it impossible for you to buy something locally. Whichever comes 1st.

And your loser ass will ALWAYS be depressed and deserving of pity.

Repugs are PITIFUL!

18. So, what is Rep. Broun proposing?
That this will happen "if Obama isn't stopped"? And does he have a concrete proposal for "stopping" this imagined dictatorship? Does it involve the use of force, even violent force? This statement really needs some follow-up, because to his overfevered nitwit supporters, anxious and fearful, I'm sure it sounds a clarion call to assassination. But Broun is very careful with his words not to mention that inevitable next step, which is the first resort for his scaredy-cat ilk whenever they perceive their privilege to be threatened.

This from the Army Times:

Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1

3rd Infantry’s 1st BCT trains for a new dwell-time mission. Helping ‘people at home’ may become a permanent part of the active Army
By Gina Cavallaro - Staff writer
Posted : Tuesday Sep 30, 2008 16:16:12 EDT

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

I'm sure if George does it, it is okay. Anything Obama does will be horrible.

65. Actually from the standpoint of homeland security it might make sense to combine the FBI, ATF,
and Treasury agents into one National Police Force. It should at least be considered. Would get rid of some redundancy and promote communication.

GA is full of nutball legislators; Broun is just one of many.

(My own congressman is John Linder, who thinks we can do away with the "Ah Are Ess" by instituting a 30-cent sales tax on everything. And people actually believe him!)

The churches and hate radio/tv have these people convinced of all sorts of dire outcomes. My husband's boss has been depressed since the election. His wife, Armenian (from Lebanon) is saying they should move to Lebanon because the United States is going communist. And they're serious!

81. Rep. Paul Broun, MD, (R-GA) is a "house-call" only physician.
In 2006 he was cited in Georgia for practicing medicine without a license. Broun is also a fundamentalist Christian of the Palin ilk. It is Broun that is "a bit crazy and off base."

82. Congressman: Obama wants Gestapo-like force
Source: MSNBC/AP

WASHINGTON - A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

When those 27% learn that the people scaring to them were lying, I hope they turn on them.

Unless we can drive them all of the cliff first.

How about a grass-roots Hemlock Cabin Republican movement?

"I guess Mr. Broun missed the results of last week's elections. Fear, slander, and hatred were defeated. It would be nice if he would join us in trying to fix this country, but if he wants to continue with Mr. Rove's tactics we will move forward without him."

Fact is that if they go after him in anyway then they will just feed the crazies delusions. Besides, the idiots who buy into this shit won't be persuaded either way. Anyone with even a semi-functioning brain can see that these guys are just trying to spread irrational fear.

94. This line is being pushed hard by right wing radio.
What we saw at the Palin rallies was just the tip of the iceberg. They are stoking the fires of fanaticism and if there isn't some sort of price to pay I'll be very surprised. Personally, I think it is a defense against a return to some form of the Fairness Doctrine. I know it sounds crazy but it really appears that they are recruiting a defacto army to defend their propaganda machine.

95. this line says it all:
"It may sound a bit crazy and off base,..."

These people are insane...after the attempt by bush to create a "royal" presidency, this jughead needs to find a new job, one where thinking is not a requisite. The GOP is filled w/loons, and they are grasping at straws. Let them live w/their serving bush to such a great extent, that should sober them up, after all, they lost dramatically, some of that is because they can't get away from insanity.;

those guys dressed in unforms (military) or otherwise at the gate are not miltiary personel. Homeland security people for the most part are civilians. The largest expanse in government involved creating a civilian force. The private armies of this administration sent overseas were not military either. Its time to sent this guy to the re-education camps.
