Football dispute leaves 2 dead (Alabama-LSU)

By CONNIE BAGGETT
Staff Reporter

An Escambia County couple died Saturday after an argument over the Alabama/LSU football game ended in shotgun blasts, according to Conecuh County authorities. District Attorney Tommy Chapman identified the people killed as Dennis and Donna Smith of Appleton Road near Brewton.

Investigators said witnesses told them that Dennis Smith, an LSU fan, called Williams, a fan of the Crimson Tide, after the game Saturday evening and an argument ensued. Officers said Donna Smith was a relative of Michael Williams' girlfriend.

Soon, the Smiths arrived at Williams' home and the men wound up in a physical altercation, officers said. Smith retrieved a pistol from his vehicle, and threatened Williams, who armed himself with a shotgun and fired two blasts, striking and killing Dennis Smith, officers said.

Donna Smith then threatened Williams, who shot and killed the woman, they said. Investigators said alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the killings, and the investigation was ongoing late Sunday.

5. His team lost the game but....
He 'won' the ensuing argumet.

...but now he'll spend the rest of his life in an Alabama prison. He better learn to root for Auburn or the Tide.

4. Odds that any of the people involved went to Alabama, LSU, or any college ....
... are very small.

The players shake hands after the game and move on but what about
the fans? I love Ohio State Football (went to Ohio U) but I make a point to
shake the either teams fan's hand after a game in Columbus.

Alcohol, guns, and crazy football fans is just the thing for the
Darwin awards.

9. I'm convinced the meanest fan in the country is ...
the Los Angeles fan.
Doesn't matter whether it's the Dodgers, USC, Lakers,
these fans are just plain mean.

They would much rather spit at you or flip you the
bird before they say something nice or even shake
your hand.

UCLA fans don't come close to how mean the USC fans
can get, and the Angels fans are downright docile
compared to the Dodgers fan.

I'm surprised there aren't more incidents like this after
a game in LA.

Also, keep your heads up for the urine bombs.

20. You've never met a hick Domer ...

You've never met a rural Notre Dame fan. In Domer mode, they are truly nasty. The people who went to Notre Dame aren't as nasty, but they are arrogant beyond belief. If Notre Dame wins two games to start the season they start trumpeting their forthcoming national championship. What's worse is the way they play themselves off as "underdogs" when this is probably the dirtiest program in the nation as far as "compensating" recruits.

I only hate one team in this world ... Notre Dame.

24. He won the Alabama" trifecta"....
Football, alcohol and guns.

Lordy, after all these years, I still cannot believe how big football is down here.
You can take the Lord's name in vain, but don't ever say anything negative about Bear Bryant.

Just sayin...I've never wanted to kill anyone after a Bama loss. He'll probabably get off.
