WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) of Massachusetts took a big lead over other Democratic presidential hopefuls in the number of delegates needed to secure the party's nomination after this week's primaries.

Kerry picked up 85 delegates after his decisive wins on Tuesday in Virginia and Tennessee, bringing his delegate total to 511, according to a tally by MSNBC.

Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) of North Carolina, picked up 48 delegates after finishing in second place in the Virginia and Tennessee contests. He now has a total of 164 delegates, edging him closer to the number of delegates held by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (news - web sites), who has 184 delegates.

Retired Gen. Wesley Clark (news - web sites), who abandoned his presidential bid after third place showings in Virginia and Tennessee, has a total of 100 delegates.

2. Oh ye of little faith
John F. Kerry is the next president of the U.S.
Any Democrat who doesn't push all negativity from their minds, and do everything in their power to elect the Democratic candidate for President is fooling themself big time. There is no other realistic option to getting rid of Dubya than to campaign with FAITH in your candidate - J.F.Kerry has earned that faith with 30 years service to his country. His bravery, integrity, and quiet dignity is everything you could want from a candidate.
Only 40-odd percent of Americans vote. If you REALLY want America to escape from the clutches of the Bush Family evil empire, get out and motivate some of these people to get off their lazy boy and vote!

KEEP THE FAITH

7. it won't get many more to the polls
but the undecideds that are already planing on voting may be affected by this.

there was a poll in this weeks time that had more people saying that they would be less likely to vote for a canidate that supported gay marraige than they would for one that was against it.

unless there are some major upswings for this administration, it seems like the gop are going to focus more on kerry's record (inconsistancies, missed votes, etc.) than touting bush's.
