Democrat John Vincent enters governor’s raceAssociated Press
HELENA - John Vincent, a Gallatin County commissioner and former legislator, made his expected entry into the gubernatorial race official Wednesday.
The Democrat had indicated for weeks that he planned to run, complaining that the four Republicans and one Democrat already campaigning have failed to address the potential deficit facing the next Legislature.
Vincent, 61, will challenge Whitefish farmer Brian Schweitzer for the Democratic Party nomination, but he joins the campaign trail late. Schweitzer has been campaigning for more than a year and has raised more than $630,000, the most of any of the gubernatorial candidates so far.
Vincent announced his decision in interviews with reporters, rather than a series of rallies or news conferences that governor candidates typically use. He did not name a running mate.
