Osama bin Laden's chauffeur in US hands (Gitmo)
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 06:23 PM by Angel_O_Peace
MIAMI (AFP) - The United States may not have captured Osama bin Laden yet, but they have their hands on his former driver, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday. Salim Ahmed Hamdan, a 34-year-old Yemeni, is being held at the US military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with hundreds of other Taliban and al-Qaeda suspects captured in Afghanistan, his military attorney, Navy Lieutenant Commander Charles Swift, told the Florida daily.

Hamdan worked for the leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist network from 1997 until the US invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, Swift said. Hamdan, however, says he is not a terrorist and is not a member of al-Qaeda, the group responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, Swift said.
"He fully admits that he was an employee of Osama bin Laden," the attorney said.

"But he adamantly denies that he was ever a member of al-Qaeda or engaged in any terrorist attack," he added. "He worked for Osama bin Laden solely for the purpose of supporting himself and his family." Hamdan made 200 dollars a month for driving bin Laden around in a Toyota pickup truck. He worked at bin Laden's farm in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar.

2. Yeah, right. I'm sure there was a need for a driver in the mountains of..
...Afghanistan and Pakistan.

More bull from the bull-factory.

4. Osama is rich and
probably has had need of a driver from time to time when in cities...I don't find that an incredible stretch of the imagination.

What is interesting here is that the news that OBL's driver is at Gitmo and has been for quite some time. Why now tell that news? Will OBL's "capture" at some date in the probably near future have something to do with this chauffeur? Or is this just more planted distraction news since the * poll numbers are dropping and the reporters are starting to show some spine as they did at today's WH briefing?

5. all this means is the man has seen a lawyer who's apparently making
his client's case in the press, I would guess. But I love the above post about OBL's podiatrist....now, that's the guy with the street level intel.

Glad to see some legal representation in all of this Gitmo, detainee, prisoner of war, enemy combatant, kids being held, two + year incarceration without charge stuff.

If there are people to be charged, there should be charges. period.

7. Does this chauffeur resemble Morgan Freeman, by any chance?
I can see it now: "Driving Mr. Osama".

"I told you to turn left at the U.S. Embassty!"

"I heard you, Mr. Osama. I heard you."

"Turn left! The U.S. Embassy!"

and so on...

</sarcasm>
