Bush: WMD greatest threat to humanity
From CNN...
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/11/bush.wmd/index.html

".. the president said that the September 11 attacks showed that the United States must prepare to fight terrorists who are willing to use chemical, biological or nuclear weapons as a first resort."

"We saw the great harm that a stateless network could inflict upon our country. Killers armed with boxcutters, mace and 19 airline tickets," Bush said.

"Those attacks also raised the prospect of even worse dangers, of other weapons in the hand of other men. The greatest threat before humanity today is the possibility of secret and sudden attack with chemical, or biological or radiological or nuclear weapons."

I'm so tired of this. What about the threat of hunger and preventable disease to humanity. How many people have died this week from these two causes?

21. Well he did, in the late 40's early 50's, even into the early 60's
I recall hearing criticism based on his having dropped the bomb. There is some evidence out there, however, that he was forced to it - ie, it would've happened with or without his approval. The man was very much an outsider who stepped into a structure filled with power insiders, and they really resented him. "Accidental president", and all that.

27. The Truman Prez Library has some good stuff...
It is in Independence, Mo.
It has an exhibit on the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings- lots of examples of different criticism/support of his actions. Truman himself was a prolific writer, but didn't write much about this particular issue. He seemed pretty settled on his decision, as hard as it may have been.

".. the president said that the September 11 attacks showed that the United States must prepare to fight terrorists who are willing to use chemical, biological or nuclear weapons as a first resort."

the September 11 attacks showed that terrorists did not need chemical, biological or nuclear weapons as a first resort. they hijacked airplanes and flew them into buildings.

8. Truly bizarre. He sounds like the Iraqi spokesperson saying Iraq was
victorious during the invasion and rout of their troops. Same sort of sense from it as well. Do they not see it coming down all around them? Or, worse, are they planning on somehow bringing about these attacks that they keep talking on and on about?

16. Yes,
I think they see the end in sight. That is why Shrub is giving so much face time to the public. I didn't watch the speech about WMD because I have heard it before. Why his fan club doesn't see that he is strictly a cardboard figure is beyond me. The WH is either scared or are really planning something we will have no control over. That is frightening. I hope his utterance about not losing the presidency was just bluster and does not foretell BBV.

9. Bush told investigators to back off Saudi Arabia
You may never heard of Khan Laboratories, but if the planet blows to pieces this year, it will be thanks to Khan Labs' creating nuclear warheads for Pakistan's military. Because investigators had been tracking the funding for this so-called "Islamic Bomb" back to Saudi Arabia, under Bush security restrictions, the inquiry was stymied. (The restrictions were lifted, the agent told me without a hint of dark humor, on September 11.)

..A top-level CIA operative who spoke with us on condition of strictest anonymity said that, after Bush took office, "There was a major shift" at the National Security Agency. Investigators were ordered to "back off" from any inquiries into Saudi Arabian financing of terror networks, especially if they touched on Saudi royals and their retainers. That put the Bin Ladens, a family worth a reported $12 billion and a virtual arm of the Saudi royal household, off limits for investigation.

And er, yeah, WMD's in the hands of terrorists *is* a bad idea. Maybe you should've thought of that BEFORE you cancelled Clinton's policy of buying up the former Soviet Union's poorly-guarded nuclear supply, eh?

17. Actually, I think W takes the #1 spot for biggest threat
to humanity, followed by #2 - Climate change and Peak Oil.

The real likelihood of being killed in a terrorist attack is still probably a lot lower than getting killed in a car accident or dying from cancer but if W has his way, we will have another MIHOP pretty soon.

36. I cannot wait to celbrate the day when this evil man finally goes down
Each time I see him descending from AF1, down those steps, I wonder if he would fall and break his neck.

He was not elected , He forced himnself upon us. He is a liar over and over and over. He does not know the meaning of the word "truth" and further does not care. "truth" is for the little guy--you know, that little guy who signed up to the military for a few extra bucks and for possibly a way to pay for a college education that they would not, in a million years be able to pay for, were it not for the
military paying for it.

Only thing is that 530 of them will not be going to college because they are dead. They are dead beccause an insane man, whose own record of service is extremely doubtful, saw fit to "order" them to their deaths in order that he may avenge his daddy and secure the assets of the country he invaded for his rich buddies.

They are ruling the lower classes. They are balling us up while they are making billions of dollars and while they are billing us taxpayers to do so. This is outrageous. This is inacceptable to any human being with any sense of his own being.
