Public can participate in world's largest general-science gathering

By Warren King
Seattle Times medical reporter

The world's oceans will be a major topic of discussion. So will world health, cloning and the potential disappearance of many languages across the globe. Even mad cows are on the agenda.

When more than 5,000 scientists and educators from around the world converge on Seattle tomorrow, they will have before them a platter of the most diverse scientific subjects imaginable.

The 2004 meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) will be held through Monday at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. It is the largest general-science meeting in the world each year and will be covered by more than 1,000 journalists.
