Public officials lied to, harassed and even threatened volunteers who were using a law designed to give citizens the power to watch over their government. In six counties, volunteers were erroneously told that the documents they wanted didn't exist.

But the governor's office was the only one of six state agencies audited that failed to comply with the public records law. The volunteer said she was told she would have to give her name and address and fill out or sign a written request form.

Too many of the icky stories in Late Breaking News come from - where? Florida. From the geezer robbing the bank (couldn't afford medical coverage) to the kidnapping/murder of Carlie to this. All roads seem to lead - if not to Washington where brother george is, then to - where? Florida. Something just really smells bad all the time about that particular state - probably because of who's running it. To the Floridians on DU, I apologize. I am NOT dissing you. It just seems like your state is completely fucked - these stories keep coming up from there. And lest we forget, his darling Katherine Harris and Selection 2000 - where? Florida.
