Blair Refuses to Be Drawn Out on Whether He Favors Bush or Kerry
LONDON (AP) - Prime Minister Tony Blair refused on Wednesday to be drawn out on his preference - President Bush or Democrat front-runner John Kerry - in the U.S. presidential race.
The question was put by lawmaker David Burnside in the House of Commons. "What is in the best interests of the United Kingdom? The re-election of President Bush, pro war, or the election of anti-war Sen. Kerry?" Burnside asked.

Blair, who was Bush's staunchest ally in the campaign to topple Saddam Hussein, but whose centrist Labor Party is a more natural ally of the Democrats than the Republicans, demurred.

"I have learned enough in the six or seven years I have been prime minister not to interfere in the American presidential elections. That is a decision that is and should be for the American people alone," Blair said

9. It is politic to be neutral
but in private polticians naturally have preferences. Last time round "new" labour was privately crossing its fingers for Gore after the mutual benefit of the Clinton years, but at the present time?

It's an open secret that Blair was crapping himself at the thought of Howard Dean becoming president and although Kerry will doubtless be closer to "new" labour there is still very much the risk that Blair will be privately sticking up for Bush, whom he has pandered to unerringly. I don't think that Blair wants to stand next to anyone who thinks that we went to war under false pretences.

10. tides are sweeping up converts on the "lie" every day.
I see Spain just joined the ranks. Blair is certainly entitled to admit it.

11. If Blair admits he lied us into war.
Then his credibility would be destroyed so much that he would have to leave office. I do wish Blair would come clean but sadly, from what I can see he is certainly more interested in clinging onto power at any cost.

Same with Bush really. Much as we would like to see the neo-cons come clean the chances of them doing that are virtually zero. :-( Both Blair and Bush appear to have gambled their reputations on this war and both have too much to lose.
