Democrats Seek More Proof of Bush Service
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&ncid=703&e=3&u=/ap/20040211/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_military_records

WASHINGTON - The White House has provided documentary evidence that President Bush (news - web sites) completed his National Guard service during the Vietnam War, but Democrats are still demanding proof he reported for duty as ordered in Alabama. snip

The records, some being released for the first time, didn't satisfy Democratic National Committee (news - web sites) Chairman Terry McAuliffe. He argued that the payroll and summary service records posed more questions than they answered.

"The fact remains that there is still no evidence that George W. Bush showed up for duty as ordered while in Alabama," McAuliffe said. snip

While Kerry, who earned three Purple Hearts, surrounds himself with fellow veterans on the campaign trail, the White House has not been able to produce fellow guardsmen who could attest to Bush's attendance at meetings and drills. "Obviously we would have made people available" if they had been found, McClellan said.

1. Very funny: "if they (fellow guardsmen) had been found"
The same goes for these damn intractable WMD: "Obviously we would have made weapons available" if they had been found.

Very annoying that these things keep being nonexistent despite statements claiming otherwise.

2. This article claims he did not have to report for duty?
http://www.suntimes.com/output/elect/cst-nws-banal11.html

"It all started with a report by the Boston Globe during the 2000 presidential election questioning Bush's National Guard service. Walter Robinson cited retired Turnipseed, of the Alabama Air National Guard, as his source.

But in an interview , Turnipseed states that Robinson's reporting of their conversation was either distorted or based upon his misunderstanding of how the military functioned at the time of Bush's service. For Bush to be "AWOL" or "away without leave," he would have had to have been assigned to a unit and under its command.

Turnipseed states Bush was never ordered to report to the Alabama Air National Guard. He points out that Bush never transferred from the Texas Air National Guard to the Alabama Air National Guard. He remained in the Texas Guard during his stay in Alabama. This was confirmed by the Texas Guard. And Turnipseed added that Bush was never under his command or any other officer in the Alabama Guard.

Turnipseed added that Bush was informed of the drill schedule of the Alabama Guard as a courtesy so he could get credit for drills while in Alabama for his service record in the Texas Guard. There was no compulsory attendance. This was also confirmed by the Texas Guard."

6. While I risked my life in Vietnam Bush did not have to report for drill?
I guess he really did have it made in the shade. I would rather have a fellow Vietnam vet for President than some rich frat boy who had the connections to avoid what I had to go through.

8. Not under the command of Alabama Guard?
So whose command? Texas? Did Texas order bush* to perform drills in Alabama? If not then where?

According to military rules... you are AWOL if you don't report to where you are suppose to report to. If you are suppose to be in the latrine at 0600 then you are suppose to be there otherwise AWOL

3. The real story behind the AWOL story
Drugs. Bush refused to say he did not take drugs before 1974. He wouldn't take a physical that checked for drugs in 1973. The pieces are coming together. And weasel words are flowing out of the White House like bats on a summer night.

Trapped like rats.
