Suicide Bomber Kills 24 Iraqi Army Recruits in Baghdad
Wed February 11, 2004 01:46 AM ET

By Bryson Hull

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide car bomb exploded at an Iraqi army recruitment center in central Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 24 recruits, in the second deadly attack against Iraqis working with U.S. occupation forces in 24 hours.

"It was a suicide attack by a single male who was killed," U.S. Colonel Ralph Baker told Reuters at the scene. He said 24 recruits were killed and 10 to 15 people were badly wounded.

"It was aimed strictly at Iraqis," he said.

Around 50 people were killed Tuesday in a similar attack against Iraqis outside a police station south of Baghdad.

Just a slight variation in the numbers. But don't worry, folks, things are just great over there. It's more dangerous in New York.

Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 06:29 AM by UpInArms
why the hell we are still in Iraq?

since there were and are no WMD, has the plan changed?

Nah...

I disagree with your post above because the goal is to liquidate all of the people in Iraq and the US is allowing (by continuing their occupation) for this to happen.

When they say that there was not proper planning for the "occupation" because they expected candy and flowers, no one is that freakin' stupid -

They didn't care.

They have been warned that Iraq is on the verge of civil war.

Are they doing anything differently? No.

They don't care.

We all need to stop thinking that these are "rational" people that would have the same interests that normal people do.

They do not.

See all the chaos out there?

That is what they planned.

They are getting their desires met.

Remember the old work adage "Safety is no Accident"?

The opposite is just as true "Chaos is all in the Planning".

Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 03:22 AM by minkyboodle
First the police station with like 50 dead and now I'm seeing links that say 36 dead for this one. Jesus Christ this is not acceptable. How can anyone say with a straight face that Iraqi's are safer now. It just doesn't seem to jibe. This of course won't be big news in the US but something like 96 dead in 48 hours is tragic.

last night (in Iraq) and he is still spewing the bullshit rhetoric that we are in Iraq because of 9/11. It was absolutely disgusting. To continue to push lies to the faces of our boys that will be the ones to die because of the lies.

He is an embarrassment to all NYers.

11. NPR this morning said 50 dead,
and that is on top of the 50 who were killed less than 24 hours earlier at a Baghdad police station.

There will be NO elections this year in Iraq, that is certain.
And GW Bush will NOT be elected this year either. He might be pResident for the next four years, but if the next 9 months are anything like the last two (re. events in Iraq and revelations of the BFEE criminal enterprise), the chance of the prick winning any election is very, very small.

There will be a terrorist attack on US soil before November. Maybe half a dozen. Bush will suspend elections - unsafe to assemble, he'll say.

If we cannot protect the Iraqis who are supposed to keep the peace, there can be no peace over there.

We are so deep in the Big Muddy right now...and the Big Fool says to push on.

16. Yes, the undertrained, underequipped, corrupt police and ICDC forces
Are sitting ducks. They'll be devoured by infiltration and corruption from within, and they'll be mercilessly slaughtered from without.

Then the various militias will be all that stands between Iraq and chaos.

13. If these Iraqis
had any semblance of a normal life under US occupation, they wouldn't all be lining up desperate for jobs with the military or police. But, hey, what the hell, they'll be doing that here in the USA shortly if * isn't ousted in November.

Kerry's a Hero; Bush is a Zero - my new slogan.

14. Targeted attacks on 'collaborators'..no children around..?
I wonder if that goes through the minds of the bomber/resistance when they conduct these attacks.

My bet is that it does. They want the US out, and in their minds, anyone who collaborates is a traitor to their own people.

18. "there could be an uptick in the violence"
"We have stated numerous times that in the lead-up to governance, there could be an uptick in the violence."
-- Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt ("Car Bombing in Baghdad Kills Up to 46,"
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&ncid=736&e=3&u=/ap/20040211/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq)

That's real good Gen. Kimmitt. And why would there be an uptick in violence? Not for the reasons you cite. Here's why.

The insurgency has been remarkably effective at driving away US allies: the Red Cross, the UN, various embassies. Now the US is withdrawing its reduced forces behind the fortress walls; the insurgency has driven us into our redoubts.

It's no wonder the resistance is handing out pamphlets detailing the next phase; they are quite certain of victory in the very near future. The predicted "uptick in violence" will come as a result of the resistance consolidating its power, openly taking over whole villages and cities. Then the resistance will face only the various militias.

Who's taking bets on the "uptick" that will follow?

20. "Uptick" in violence - how antiseptic and machine-like of him
to refer to this carnage as an uptick!

It hasn't taken * long to convert Iraq into a Failed State, one in which terrorists and opportunists of all ilk (including Halliburton) flood in and take over.

* said he wasn't for nation building - that's exactly right.

He's destroyed Iraq and made it ripe for the picking.

21. BBC: 'Fire and body parts all around'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3479057.stm

<A private security guard, who was searching people entering the army recruitment office when the bomber struck, said his knee injury was caused by a human head blown off by the blast, our correspondent reports.

The Associated Press reported plastic bags filled with body parts strewn about the courtyard of the Karkh hospital.

Relatives crowded outside the gates, shouting the names of missing loved ones to officials inside, AP said.

An ambulance driver described the bomb scene as apocalyptic.

A US military spokesman, Colonel Ralph Baker, said a white Oldsmobile car loaded with 135-225kg (300-500 pounds) of explosives, had been driven up to the recruiting centre by a single male.

Ghasan Sameer, 32, an officer in the new Iraqi army, said he saw the car approach slowly.

"It ran over some people and exploded. I was blown up in the air and saw fire and body parts all around me," he said. He suffered broken legs and shrapnel wounds.

Witnesses said up to 300 recruits had been standing in a queue outside the building when the bomber struck>

.....This is So Gruesome...Fuck You bush*! :puke:

These attacks are getting deadlier. Americans may not notice as much because most of the victims are Iraqi, but they certainly notice it in Baghdad.
