9/11 Panel to Accept Summary of Briefings – Legal Challenge Scrapped
Legal Challenge Scrapped; Agreement Angers Some Members, Victims' Families

The independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks backed away yesterday from a threatened legal showdown with the White House, agreeing to accept a 17-page summary of presidential briefing documents it had sought.

The deal will not allow the full 10-member commission to read the original documents, or have access to notes on the documents taken by some of the commission's own members. The summary -- provided to commission members during a closed-door meeting yesterday -- covered several dozen original intelligence documents and was first vetted by the White House, officials said.

The limitations prompted at least three Democratic members of the bipartisan panel to vote in favor of issuing a subpoena to the White House for the documents, known as the President's Daily Brief (PDB).

But the move was rebuffed by Republicans on the commission and at least one Democrat abstained, according to several commission members.

2. Summary??? Horsemanure! Nowhere near sufficient.

A 17 page summary vetted by the WHite House? Oooh that will be accurate. Just like the October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate that was edited for public consumption. No access to original documents or even their own notes? No way does this begin to approach adequate. Good that at least three Democratic members on the commission voted to subpoena. As for the fourth he abstained? what the hell is that? Nevertheless, the three who voted to subpoena need to turn up the pressure and demand access to the originals and not let this transparent attempt at stonewalling succeed.

3. It is probably better not to look into the 9-11 events too closely

It is unlikely that an actual investigation would uncover anything that would reassure voters.

4. America, Just more proof that your selected President
is nothing more than a white washer of deceit. He hates you and the truth that you stand for. 3000 people died, Bush still hides...from the truth. BUSH KNEW!!!

7. The Democrats should resign in protest and let this be a
Republican POS report. Make it an issue in November.

8. Agreed, the Dem's should resign
and let the brilliant, fair and balanced Republicans take over the investigation. The voters would feel so warm and fuzzy with their results.

Please resign.....please??!
