Appeals court declines stay in Michigan voter registration case
Paul Egan / The Detroit News

A federal appeals court on Thursday rejected Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land's request for a stay of a ruling by a lower federal judge in Detroit that will require her office to restore more than 5,000 names to the voter rolls before Tuesday's election.

But the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals did say it would give speedy consideration to her appeal of the order by U.S. District Judge Stephen J. Murphy.

The order requires Land to remove the "rejected" marking in the state's qualified voter file for everyone whose original voter ID cards have been returned to the state as undeliverable since Jan. 1, 2006.

Murphy ruled this month that the method the state uses to purge its voter file violates the National Voting Rights Act.

2. That's great news. So far, most of these rulings have been
in our favor, knock on formica.

Still, MI is a place to watch. That SOS seems to be a sleezo.

5. Yes, she is pretty bad
Yet the local news doesn't really report that. They reported the news of the court decision but I don't really see much focus on her illegal actions. She is expected to run to be our Governor in 2010 so I hope the Democrats really use this against her when that time comes.

6. Were you aware of the voting machine problems there on primary night?
I called the Elections Div and they lied to me about it.

7. No, I hadn't heard of any problems here during the primaries
What was the problem? I voted during the primaries and didn't experience anything wrong.

8. Keith reported that 20 counties experienced a "glitch"
where uncommitted voters were counted as write in. No one else reported it.

When I called the Elections Div, at first the rep told me no problem, those ballots were counted by hand. When she relaxed a little, she said those machines had been rebooted. That means live votes were lost and no one even knows how many.

But, obviously she had been told to use the soothing "hand counted" line and to lie about what they really did. After that, I decided it would be a good idea to watch MI closely because the SOS seems to have no problem lying to voters.

13. Thanks. She should be watched
Luckily, our Gov. is a Democrat so everything isn't controlled by Republicans. I'm sure she'll step in if there's any funny business.

10. She's going to have to beat Mike Cox in the primary, and probably Dennis Archer
in the general election. She should be able to beat Cox, especially if he gets caught for the whitewash investigation he did into the stripper party in 2003, when he said it was an "urban legend".

Dennis Archer is well-liked in southeastern Michigan, by dems and independents. Detroit was doing better on his watch than under Coleman or Kwame.

12. I can't stand Cox
He's right up there with Bush on my dislike scale. It's the BS he pulled with the gay marriage ban. How dare he talk about protecting marriage at the same time he's having an affair. I think Terri Lynn Land or Candice Miller are the Republicans best chance at winning. I just wonder if they'll all step aside again for DeVos. My pick is Dennis Archer as of now. John Cherry is probably the other main choice for the Dems but I'm unsure about him.

18. Grrrr. Cox is a terrible repuke.
I really can't stand that guy at all. He always goes on and on about how much work his office does, but he never stands up for the little guy. Not ever.

9. Holy Crap.
This is amazing. I hope that it continues. Is this related to the Obama Campaign keeping on top of all of these issues and using their army of lawyers?

20. Get ready for a Leavenworth jump suit Terri
Some friends and I are going to form a new PAC to get the new DoJ to prosecute vote cagers, phone jammers, polling place harassers, and voting roll purgers.
